He had been placed under a spell not once, but twice—first by the Elders of Light four decades after the Great Sundering, and again four centuries later by the Keepers of Silence. They feared what he knew, what he could become, and what he might awaken. So they buried him in dreams, wrapped in enchantments, and sealed his fate beneath the hill of golden letters.

So read the inscription, etched in ancient runes that shimmered like fireflies in the dark. But the sword remained untouched. For generations, hands reached, strained, bled—but none could lift it. The spirit world, once ruled by wisdom and wonder, fell into chaos. No king. No law. No order. Just shadows and silence.

And the unicorn dreamed.

He dreamed of the day he would rise. For the spell was not eternal—it was bound to a moment. A single chance. If he missed it, if he failed to rise and depart before the blue moon’s final breath, all magic would drain from his horn and his heart. He would become nothing more than a beast of bone and sorrow.

The world would forget.

But artists remembered. They painted him in secret, wrote of him in riddles, sang of him in songs no one understood. They bore the burden of beauty in a world that had turned its back on wonder. They paid the price in loneliness, in madness, in brilliance.
