Dark Dragon: Legend of the Blood-Scepter & The Obsidian Ark

The Tree of Life was sick—there was no doubt about it. Its silver-veined leaves curled into blackened husks, and with every passing minute, the ambient magic feeding the realm began to wane. If the tree should fade and die, the pixies from this world would fly, abandoning the dying land forever.
Professor Avalon stood in the dim recesses of his quarters, staring down at the silver frame of his enchanted mask. My magic is contained within the mask, but perhaps I can use it on myself, he thought, his chest heaving under the weight of his corrupting infection. It's quite dangerous in my condition, but it's worth the risk.
He ran a hand across the leather-bound binding of the ancient texts resting on his desk. Now that he possessed all four parts of the Codex, the ultimate magic of the realm was almost within reach. Yet knowledge alone was insufficient; he must have the power of the dark dragon to unlock the powers of the relics.
High above the clouds, far away on a blimp, ARC, the Land Elk, and Prince Phobos gathered around a dimly lit holographic projector to discuss their next move.
"Just as I thought," Phobos said, tapping a claw against the console screen as flight manifests scrolled past. "Bloom wasn't listed as a passenger on the ship."
"There were two bodies that weren't in the report," ARC added, looking up from the telemetry logs.
"The victims were Hunter and a fairy," the Land Elk rumbled, his deep voice carrying through the cramped vessel. "But there was one more. They say it was Prince Phobos and Arc who were behind it..."
"I know that's not true," Phobos cut in, his eyes narrowing with bitter resolve. "It had to have been Lord Darkar."
Before ARC could reply, the blimp shuddered against a fierce updraft. Above the sound of the rushing waters below, the howling wind outside, and the rhythmic thrum of the blimp engine, a mysterious voice whispered, echoing through the hull like a thread of silk pulling tight across thin air:
Stay... stay...
"It was the Spider Queen," ARC whispered, drawing his blade as shadows crept along the rivets of the ceiling.
"Okay, it's time you knew the truth," Will Vandom spoke up from the doorway, her hand pressed against the glowing heart of the portal key at her neck. She stepped into the light of the command deck, her expression grim. "It began weeks ago. The ancient texts made it clear that only all three heirs of Meridian can reclaim the seal... which meant we needed my brother, Prince Phobos."
