The Shadow Phoenix: Beast of Heatherfield and the Subterranean Kingdom(Darkar Unleashed: Legend of the Frozen Underground)
The moonlight struck the jagged ice like fractured glass as four silhouettes moved across the frozen sea. Cold wind whipped at their cloaks, carrying the bitter scent of woodsmoke from a small, isolated chimney looming in the snowbound distance. Inside that lone house, the Three Ancient Witches were waiting.
King Edmond Pevensie paused, his hand resting on the hilt of his sword as he turned to the fairy of the Dragon Flame. "I know you must go in alone, Bloom," Edmond said, his voice steady against the howling wind. "But I’d at least want to stand guard."
Beside him stood Prince Phobos, his regal demeanor shadowed with dark intent, though for once his gaze held a shared purpose with his younger sister, Will Vandom. Will clutched the Heart of Kandrakar tightly in her palm, its warm glow flickering against the ambient chill of the ice.
"We don't have time to argue," Will murmured, her eyes fixed on the smoke curling into the midnight sky. "Not after what we learned."
"Indeed," Phobos chimed in, his tone cold and sharp. "After a close examination of the evidence brought forth by Layla and our tiny friends, we must conclude our enemies are much stronger than we initially thought."
The revelation had shaken them all: it was the shadow creature Lord Darkar—the Shadow Phoenix who had once commanded the Three Witches—pulling the strings from the dark. Only the ancient power of the Lord of the Templars stood a chance at stopping Darkar's rise. But a singular, troubling question lingered in the frozen air: What does he want from the Pixies?
Deep beneath the frozen expanse, far below the ice they walked upon, another group fought through the oppressive gloom.
"We're buried here as deep as deep in the earth," Jill Pole remarked, brushing dust from her cloak as she navigated the subterranean tunnels.
"But we're doing very well," Puddleglum added, his naturally doleful voice echoing off the ancient stone walls. "We were to go under the ruined city, and we are most certainly under it. So we're following Aslan's orders again."
Yet above ground, the crisis only grew more dire. Word had reached them through the shadowed corridors of the realm: Lord Cedric, once again serving as the faithful hand of Lord Darkar, had captured Queen Elyon once more. The former bookseller had shed his quiet disguise, revealing the full extent of his monstrous loyalties.
Will looked back at her older brother, Phobos, whose jaw set with fierce resolve. Whatever past betrayal lay between them, family was a line neither would allow Darkar to cross.
"Cedric is back," Will said softly, her grip tightening around the Heart of Kandrakar. "And he has Elyon."
"Then he has already made his final mistake," Phobos replied, his eyes burning with a dangerous light. "Her brother and her sister are coming to save her."
Bloom took a deep breath, the fiery power within her rising to meet the freezing gale. Looking back at Edmond, Will, and Phobos, she nodded, stepping forward toward the smoking house on the edge of the frozen sea.
