Inside the grand archives of Kandrakar, tension hung thick in the air. The Paper Sisters—Maggie, Anita, and Michelle—stood before the assembled royals with arms crossed, their expressions sharp as folded edges.
"Look at how far Meridian has fallen these last three years," Maggie declared, her voice echoing off the marble. "The sheer vandalism and chaos have caused such a stir, yet your guards can't even catch a single intruder."
Prince Phobos sneered, adjusting his regal tunic, while Will Vandom and Queen Elyon exchanged weary glances.
"Enough nonsense," a low voice cut through the room. Step by step, Diaz emerged from the deep shadows, the insignia of Shadow Skill gleaming on his leather armor. Flanking him was Darkness, a quiet storm of lethal grace.
"It's been three years since I've seen you," Diaz said, glancing at the royal siblings. "I think it's a shame to reunite this way, with so much water under the bridge."
"To come back after so long and find this happening is more than I can stand," Phobos spat, his pride stung, though his eyes betrayed his underlying fear of the rising Egen threat.
Darkness stepped forward, resting a hand on the hilt of his blade as he surveyed the room. "We can argue over failed defenses later. If we are to activate Operation Sleeping Books and pull King Xayden back from the abyss, we need our full strength—and right now, we're missing one more warrior."
