NIMH SPECIAL: CHAPTER ZERO :Blood Covenant of Meridian: The Awakening of Asheroth
The tallow flame flickered, casting long, wavering shadows across the parchment where Nicodemus sat, his quill scratching steadily against the heavy paper. Behind him, the oppressive presence of Prince Phobos and the scarred silhouette of Svall scarred the quiet room with an uneasy tension.
“Jonathan Brisby was killed today while helping with the plan,” Nicodemus wrote, his whiskers twitching as he blinked through the dim light. “It has been four years since our departure from Kandrakar, and our world is changing. We can’t stay here much longer. His family knows nothing of us, nor of our ways.”
The heavy oak door swung open, breaking the silence. Diaz stepped into the light, his posture weary, followed closely by Will Vandom, Princess Elyon, and Bloom of Domino.
“It was the ancient people of the holy nation of Ashlina that first discovered the existence of a sacred power flowing through all things,” Diaz said quietly, his voice carrying the weight of lost history as he took his place among them.
Will stepped forward, adjusting the Heart of Kandrakar resting against her chest. “So what changed, Diaz? How did we get here?”
“I was the keeper of the Alexandria Library,” Diaz replied, his eyes dark with memory. “I lived there alongside Prince Phobos. We were the ones who showed G the Legendarium... but there was a hawk spirit sleeping within its pages. It corrupted G—Kane Phalanx. I fled, trying to find a way to lock the Legendarium away forever, to undo the damage.”
From the deeper shadows at the edge of the chamber, a cold, mocking laugh echoed off the stone walls. Narissa stepped into the candlelight, her eyes gleaming with malice as she locked her gaze on the former keeper.
“Ah, Tracker... how the mighty have fallen,” Narissa cackled, her voice dripping with poison. “Wouldn’t you prefer to turn the clock back? Wouldn’t you prefer vengeance?”
