BLOOD & ASH: The Shadow Phoenix, The Ultimate Pokémon, and The Dark Tournament
The thunder rolled across the shattered plains as the creature stepped out of the glowing glass capsule, its eyes burning with a cruel, cold intelligence.
"We dreamed of creating the world's strongest Pokémon... and we succeeded!" the chief scientist screamed, clutching his research notes as the lab crumbled around them.
The entity hovered, its psychic aura crackling with raw, dark force. "Behold my power," the creature spoke, its voice echoing telepathically in the minds of everyone present. "I am the strongest warrior in the world—stronger even than Mew! Those fools thought I was a mere science experiment. I shall purge this world of all that oppose me, human and Pokémon alike! The world will heed my warning... the reign of Lord Darkar shall soon begin!"
The shadowy, phoenix-like monster cackled, its dark wings spreading open to blot out the moon, filling the night sky with an suffocating malice before it dissolved into the darkness.
The sun rose over a tense gathering the following morning. Far from the destroyed laboratory, Faragonda stood before the Winx Club, her expression grim as she unrolled a series of glowing parchment scrolls.
"However," Faragonda began, her voice heavy with gravity, "the following morning, after a close examination of the evidence brought forth by Layla and our tiny friends, we must conclude our enemies are much stronger than we initially thought. Sixteen years ago, the entire Realm of Magics was on the brink of destruction when a dark and evil power escaped from the void."
Bloom stepped forward, her eyes wide with shock. "But I thought it was the Ancestral Witches that destroyed my home kingdom of Domino!"
"Yes," Faragonda confirmed softly. "But they were just following the orders of the Shadow Phoenix... Lord Darkar."
Meanwhile, in a desolate, rocky wasteland bridging the gap between dimensions, two monstrous figures stood facing each other. Younger Toguro stood with his massive, grotesque muscles flexed, cross-armed and unmoving as he spoke of the dark entity's rising terror.
"Why don't you get to the point, Muscles?" Yusuke Urameshi shouted, crossing his arms and glaring at the hulking demon. "You're afraid of Lord Darkar! There's no one here to impress!"
Toguro didn't flinch. He looked down at the Spirit Detective with cold, sunken eyes. "The ability to fear your opponent is a strength, Yusuke. But you haven't been scared enough to defeat Darkar... and that's why he will crush you."
And that brings us to right now.
My name is Leonardo, and right now, my brothers and I are in a whole lot of trouble.
Don't ask me how a shadow-phoenix Pokémon god, a magical realm's darkest history, and a bunch of demon-fighting spirit detectives all tied together, because I'm still trying to figure it out myself. All I know is that Donnie, Raph, Mikey, and I are currently cornered by the most wicked, dark-magic-wielding wizards on the East Side, trapped deep in a trash-filled alley in the heart of the city.
Raph drew his sai, leaning his back against mine as the wizards' dark spells began to illuminate the brick walls. "Any bright ideas, Fearless Leader?"
I drew my katanas, the steel reflecting the eerie green light of the dark magic closing in on us. "Yeah," I said, spinning my blades into a guard stance. "Survive this alley... and then go deal with a Shadow Phoenix."
