“It’s not,” I whisper from the shadows. “I’m afraid not.”

You freeze. You’ve heard that voice before. Not in words, but in the silence between them. In the static of broken radios. In the hum of the city’s forgotten corners.

People close to you have started to suspect. They’ve seen the signs. The strange symbols etched into your notebook. The way your eyes flicker when someone mentions the name Kuroshi. They almost discovered my true identity.

Are you scared?

You should be.

This is your last chance to run away. But you won’t. You’re too deep now. The underbelly of society—the ones who survived the purge, the ones who wear scars like medals—they know who I am. And they know the lengths I’ll go to deal with trash like you.
