The Lightning Emperor and the Tree of Beginnings
The Queen stood alone in the Hall of Echoes, her silken gown torn by wind and regret. The stained-glass windows—once radiant with the sigils of the Twelve Houses—now shimmered with fractured light. She had finally seen it. The truth.
Davis and Louie had betrayed her.
Not out of malice, but desperation. They had opened the Gate of Hollow Stars, the one sealed since the Age of Silence. In doing so, they had awakened something that should have remained forgotten.
The Queen’s voice trembled as she whispered to the empty chamber, “They thought they were saving us…”
But the wise knights had known better.
Sir Kael, last of the Moonfire Order, and Dame Elira, bearer of the Mirror Blade, had ridden through the storm-split skies to the Tree of Beginnings. It was there, in the heart of the Verdant Expanse, that the Lightning Emperor had vanished—ever since he left the Limitless Fortress after the Sundering.
The Tree pulsed with ancient memory, its bark etched with runes older than the stars. The knights knelt before it, their armor humming with static.
“It is no use,” Elira said, her voice hollow. “We sent all the beast-kin, every wind-runner and shadow-hound. He is not in the Fortress.”
Kael’s eyes narrowed. “I don’t believe he left of his own will.”
Elira turned. “You think it was… the stranger?”
Kael nodded. “The one who came cloaked in dusk, with no name and no shadow. The one who spoke of ‘the true storm’.”
The Tree of Beginnings groaned, its branches crackling with blue fire. A bolt of lightning struck the ground before them, and from the scorched earth rose a figure—tall, cloaked in thunder, eyes like twin storms.
The Lightning Emperor had returned.
But his gaze was not kind.
“You seek salvation,” he said, voice like rolling thunder. “But you bring prophecy’s end.”
The knights bowed, but Kael dared speak. “The kingdom is dying. The Hollow Gate is open. We need you.”
The Emperor’s eyes flickered. “Then you must choose. The Queen’s truth… or the Stranger’s lie.”
Behind them, the Tree began to bloom—its blossoms glowing with memories of what was, and what might yet be.
And far away, in the ruins of the Limitless Fortress, the Stranger watched through a mirror of obsidian, smiling.
