Who Says There's No Such Thing as Monsters

In the Reverse World, reality is a lie.

Here, the sky bleeds violet and the oceans whisper secrets in forgotten tongues. Time coils backward, and truth is a parasite feeding on memory. This is a world born from the ashes of logic—a distorted mirror of our own, where monsters are not myths but monarchs.

Long ago, when the city-states of this realm warred for dominion, they forged their legacy not in scrolls or songs, but in altars—colossal monuments built from the shattered weapons of their enemies. These altars pulsed with ancient fury, each blade a relic of conquest, each spear a scream frozen in steel. The victors believed that by stacking the instruments of death high enough, they could pierce the heavens and rewrite fate.

They were wrong.

The altars awakened something.

It began with whispers in the wind, then shadows that moved without light. Soon, the monsters emerged—not from the forests or the mountains, but from within. Twisted reflections of the warriors who built the altars, their pride and hatred given flesh. Horned beasts with molten eyes, serpents made of bone and regret, winged horrors that sang lullabies in reverse.

And then came the Celestial Prison.

A dome of invisible fire encased each city-state, a divine punishment or perhaps a cruel joke from the gods of this world. If one dared to flee too far beyond the city’s edge, the prison would ignite—burning flesh, soul, and memory until nothing remained but ash that screamed. It was said the fire didn’t just consume the body—it erased you from existence, past and future alike.

One such soul, a warrior named Kael, tried to escape.

“What happened?” he gasped, collapsing at the edge of the city, his skin blistering with invisible flame. “My body… it feels like it’s on fire!”

A sentinel loomed over him, its face a mask of bone and sorrow. “Don’t even think of escaping,” it hissed. “The Celestial Prison knows. It remembers. It punishes.”

Kael writhed, his mind unraveling. He had fought for glory, built altars with his own hands, sacrificed truth for power. Now, he was becoming something else. His fingers elongated into claws. His eyes turned to obsidian. His scream became a roar.

Another monster was born.

So who says there’s no such thing as monsters?

In the Reverse World, they are the only truth left.
