The Masked Boy, Madara the Wave Ruler, and The Last Dreamer Grunge Rock Type Beat

"those who crave true power must seek the darkness but move past it " said the old witch riding on the The wind howling through the broken chapel as I sealed the last glyph into the stone floor. The sigil pulsed once—green, like the sky beyond the shattered stained glass—and then faded into the dust. I turned to you, my oldest friend, my shadow through fire and frost.

"I'm sorry I had to deceive you," I said, voice low. "You, the person closest to me. But I shall continue to count on you, my friend."

You didn’t speak. You never did when the truth hurt. But your eyes, sharp as ever, searched mine for the reason behind the lie. I gave you none. Not yet.

Outside, the sky churned in hues of emerald and jade. No sun. No stars. Just that eerie, endless green. This was the place the old maps warned of—the place where the sky is not blue by day nor black by night. The place where fate waits at the fork in the road.

We had reached it.

You stepped beside me, your boots crunching on bones long forgotten. “So this is it,” you muttered. “The Verdant Divide.”

I nodded. “When you reach the fork in the road, your fate awaits where the sky is green.”

You scoffed. “Cryptic as ever.”

I smiled, but it didn’t reach my eyes. “We would have cleaned them to the brisket,” I said, remembering the ambush at the Hollow Vale. “If only I’d told you the truth.”

You turned sharply. “You knew they’d be there.”

“I did.”

“And you let us walk into it.”

“I had to. They were after me, not the rest of you. I needed them to think I was still running.”

You clenched your fists. “And the others?”

“I mourn them. Every night. But I’m not after their treasure. I’m looking for a person.”

You narrowed your eyes. “A person?”

“A boy. Wears a mask. Ring any bells?”

Your silence was answer enough.

The wind shifted. The green sky flickered, like a dying flame. I felt it—the light returning. Not sunlight. Not moonlight. Something older. Something that draws them back.

“We shall leave this place,” I said, gripping your arm, “before the light draws them back again.”

You hesitated. Then nodded.

We stepped into the forked path, where the trees bled sap the color of rust and the stones whispered names we’d forgotten. Destiny awaited. And though I had deceived you, you still walked beside me.

Because some truths are heavier than lies.

And some friendships

are forged in fire, but tempered in betrayal.
