The Hyperbolic Time Chamber: Your Gateway to Another Realm and the Land of Mirror Images Hard Rock Type Beat
The air tasted of ozone and stale ash. I stumbled forward, my knees hitting the ground—or what passed for ground in this place. It felt spongy, like moss grown over a rotting log. Above, the sky was a bruised violet, devoid of stars, motionless and heavy.
I looked up. Standing before me was a figure cloaked in tattered grey robes. As they lowered their hood, I gasped. It was my own face looking back at me, though this version was older, the eyes etched with a weariness that went down to the bone.
She offered me a hand. Her grip was cold, dry, and terrifyingly familiar.
"Thanks to you, it looks like we were able to send them to the other world," she said, her voice a raspy echo of my own. She gestured to the horizon, where the landscape seemed to glitch and stutter like a corrupted video file. "Although, it doesn't appear that the two worlds are identical after all."
I stood up, dusting off the strange, grey moss. "Where am I? The last thing I remember was the explosion... the ritual."
She walked toward a placid, black lake a few yards away. The water didn't ripple, even when the wind blew.
"This is an experiential version of the eternal sleep, a limited dream world," she murmured, staring into the abyss of the water. "Like a mirror image on the water's surface. But throw in a foreign object, and some distortions will result."
She turned and pointed a finger at me. "You are the foreign object."
I looked at my hands. They were vibrating slightly, fading in and out of focus. "I... I traveled here. The circle activated."
"I see you have traveled through a Gate to this world," she nodded solemnly. "Gates are doors that connect worlds. But they weren't meant to open here. Not to this reflection."
She stepped closer, clutching my shoulders. The contact stabilized my vision. "You and I are the same person living in two different worlds. I am the echo of who you were before the timeline fractured. But listen to me closely."
The violet sky suddenly darkened, bleeding into a deep, suffocating charcoal. The silence of the dream world was broken by a low, thrumming vibration that I felt in my teeth.
"This world has been connected—tied to the darkness," she whispered, fear finally breaking through her stoic mask. She pulled me away from the water's edge. "We shouldn't be here."
"But we stopped him," I argued, panic rising. "The High Warlock. The ritual circle. I saw the blast hit him dead on!"
My doppelgänger shook her head slowly. She pointed toward a towering spire in the distance, a structure that twisted impossibly, defying gravity. A black light was beginning to pulse from its peak.
"He put all his power in that blast," she said, drawing a jagged blade from her robes. "But it's still not over yet
