Twas the Night Before Christmas: A Tale of the Fallen Dragon and the Ape Warrior(Intro)
It was the night before Christmas, and all through the rubble of what was once Genkai’s temple, not a creature was stirring—not even a mouse. Mostly because the mouse had sensed the astronomical rising power levels and fled three prefectures away.
Yusuke Urameshi lay embedded in a granite wall, his gi torn, his chest heaving. The Spirit Gun energy on his finger fizzled out like a wet firework.
A golden boot hovered into his vision.
"You have until midnight, the eve of Christmas, to complete your quest," Vegeta scoffed, floating with his arms crossed, looking down at the battered detective.
Yusuke groaned, pulling himself out of the crater. "I'm well aware of that, but what is my quest?" he snapped, wiping blood from his lip. "Koenma just pointed at the sky and screamed! I lost a lot more power than I was counting on fighting those A-Class apparitions earlier."
The air pressure dropped. Vegeta grabbed Yusuke by his torn collar, his eyes flashing teal. "How dare you give up, Yusuke! You are a Saiyan warrior! Take some pride in your heritage!"
"Hey! Short-stack! Put him down!"
A glowing orange blade of energy sliced through the air, forcing Vegeta to backflip away. Kazuma Kuwabara stood atop a pile of debris, his Spirit Sword crackling in the winter air. He was wearing a Santa hat that was slightly singed.
"Urameshi might be half-monkey-alien or whatever you call it, but he's my teammate!" Kuwabara yelled.
"Hn. Pathetic," a voice sneered from the shadows. Hiei appeared instantly next to Vegeta, his hand resting on the hilt of his katana. He looked at the Saiyan Prince with a mix of rivalry and begrudging respect. "You waste breath lecturing him. If he dies, he was weak."
"I see the cavalry has arrived," Kurama stepped out from the treeline, a rose in his hand. His eyes were sharp, calculating. "Though I suggest we save the inter-team fighting for later. The sky is opening up."
They all looked up. The "Black Angel"—a silhouette darker than the void, possessing seven wings of negative energy—descended slowly. It was Sensui, but twisted, warped by an artifact from Frieza's armory.
"Vegeta," Yusuke said, standing up and shaking off the debris. "There's something not right about this Black Angel."
Kurama stepped forward, his expression grave. "Yusuke is correct. It's not what I sense, though—it's what I don't sense."
"He has no Spirit Energy," Kuwabara said, squinting. "And no Demon Energy either."
"And no Ki," Vegeta added, narrowing his eyes. "He is a void in the fabric of reality."
"It is a parasitic entity feeding on existence itself," Kurama analyzed rapidly. "If that being fully manifests, the Spirit World and the 7th Universe are in grave danger. It will collapse the barrier between the Living World and the Other World."
Hiei unwrapped the bandages on his right arm, the Dragon of the Darkness Flame pulsing hungrily. "Then we burn it before the clock strikes twelve."
Vegeta powered up, his aura turning a deep, royal blue. "Finally, someone with a spine. Try to keep up, three-eyes."
Hiei smirked. "Don't blink, Prince. You might miss the kill."
Yusuke cracked his knuckles, his hair spiking gold as he tapped into his heritage, flanked by his best friends and his terrifying mentor. The grandfather clock in the ruins began to toll. 11:59 PM.
"Alright boys," Yusuke grinned, aiming a finger at the descending angel. "This is going to be one brutal Christmas."
