Windblown Weather, Temple Prison, and The Mysterious Queen Hard Rock Type Beat
The air in the Nexus was thick, not with oxygen, but with static—the friction of a thousand worlds colliding and bleeding into one another.
"Don’t you touch him!"
The shout tore through the silence. Yusuke Urameshi didn't wait for permission. His Spirit Gun was already glowing a harsh, vibrant blue at his fingertip, the energy crackling like an exposed wire. But Yusuke wasn’t the only one about to intervene in this onslaught.
To his right, a flash of light materialized into a oversized key. Sora was ready to strike, his shoes skidding against the obsidian floor as he dropped into a combat stance, magic swirling around the tip of the Keyblade.
The target of their aggression, a towering, shadowed Witch draped in robes of oil and ink, merely laughed. She held a small, trembling boy—Atreyu—by the collar of his tunic. With a flick of her wrist, she cast a binding spell that slammed Yusuke and Sora into the invisible walls of the barrier.
"You got lucky we couldn't get free, witch!" Yusuke snarled, banging a fist against the barrier, the spirit energy dissipating harmlessly. "If I get my hands on you—"
"Silence, Spirit Detective," the Witch hissed, dropping Atreyu. She dissolved into smoke, retreating into the darkness, leaving the heroes alone in the crumbling chamber.
Atreyu scrambled to his feet, ignoring the bruises on his neck. He didn't have time for the boy with the key or the delinquent with the spirit energy. He turned desperately toward the massive, stone faces looming out of the mist.
"Southern Oracle, I need to know how to save Fantasia!" Atreyu screamed, his voice cracking. "The Nothing is consuming everything. The stories are vanishing!"
The eyes of the great sphinxes glowed a dim, dying gold. The voice that returned was not a boom, but a whisper, ancient and tired.
> The Childlike Empress is dying, Atreyu. Without her, the realm ceases to be.
"I know that!" Atreyu pleaded. "Tell me the cure!"
> The Empress needs a new name. But no one from the Spirit World can give it to her. It must be a human child.
Sora lowered his Keyblade, stepping forward. "A human? I’m human. I’m from Destiny Islands."
The Oracle’s eyes dimmed further. > You are a hero of light, boy. But you have become a legend. You are woven into the story now. Only a child of the True World, one untouched by the ink of destiny, can speak the name.
A silence fell over the group. They were all characters. Legends. Warriors. None of them were merely human anymore.
"How is it you retain your appearance?"
The soft voice came from the shadows behind Yusuke. He turned to see a small girl, perhaps ten years old, clutching a green striped shirt. She looked translucent, her edges blurring into the background.
"Here, everything is a little hazy," the girl whispered, looking at her own hands as they flickered like a bad signal. She looked up at Atreyu with wide, fearful eyes. "They took away my name."
Sora knelt down, his expression softening. "Who are you?"
"I... I worked at the bathhouse," she stammered, clutching her head. "The Witch, Yubaba... she took it. She calls me Sen. But that's not me."
Atreyu’s eyes widened. He looked from the Oracle to the fading girl. "She’s fading because she’s forgetting. But she’s not from here, is she?"
"No," Yusuke realized, sensing her energy. "It’s faint, but she feels different. Like the waking world."
"If you remember your name," Atreyu said, stepping toward her, "you can save the Empress. You can save all of us."
The girl closed her eyes tight. The haze tried to swallow her, to turn her into just another background spirit in the bathhouse. She thought of a river. She thought of a dragon. She thought of a train ride across the water.
"Chihiro," she whispered. The haze around her snapped back, her form becoming solid, vibrant, and real. "My name is Chihiro."
The Southern Oracle’s eyes flared with blinding light. The answer had been found.
