Claire Maltese: Duelist of the Emerald Sky & The Phantom Magic Treehouse Soulful Rock Type Beat
The heavy mahogany doors creaked open, revealing nothing but dust motes dancing in the moonlight and rows of empty, towering shelves.
"This wouldn't happen to be the library, would it?" Yugi asked, his voice echoing in the hollow space. He paused, the Millennium Puzzle clinking against his chest. "Never mind. I’ll find it myself."
"We got here too late, Yugi," Seto Kaiba snapped. He stood by a shattered stained-glass window, his grip tightening on the handle of his briefcase. For the first time in his life, his voice was trembling—not with fear, but with the sheer, cold realization of a plan gone off the rails.
"That's the game, boys."
The smooth, melodic voice drifted from the balcony above. Maximillion Pegasus, President of Industrial Illusions, stepped into the light, swirling a glass of red wine. His golden eye remained hidden behind a curtain of silver hair, but his smirk was visible enough.
"Hopefully, this tournament will attract the warriors holding the Rave Stones to the Kingdom of Symphonia," Pegasus continued, his tone airy as if he were discussing a guest list for a dinner party. "The synergy between the Shadow Games and the Holy Magic is simply... divine."
Kaiba turned, his coat tail snapping like a whip. "I don't care about your legends or your stones, Pegasus. I'm here for the technology you stole."
"Always so literal, Kaiba-boy," Pegasus sighed. He looked toward a sealed stone sarcophagus at the back of the room, etched with runes that didn't belong to any Egyptian dynasty Yugi recognized. "Which reminds me... we have to get Queen Resha Valentine out of here before the Resonance reaches its peak. If she wakes up in this state, your little card game will be the least of your worries."
Yugi stepped forward, his expression hardening. "The stones, the Queen... you’re playing with forces you don't understand, Pegasus. What happens if the warriors don't show up?"
Pegasus chuckled, a dry, hollow sound. "Oh, they're already here, Yugi-boy. They just haven't realized the stakes have changed from 'Life Points' to 'Life itself'."
