The stars used to sing the same song. Before the Great Schism, the universe was a singular, luminous kingdom governed by a council of Light. But even in a perfect garden, rot can set in. To protect the cosmos, the Elders wove a shimmering, multidimensional barrier—the Veil—to isolate the Kingdom of Meridian, a land where the shadows had grown sentient and hungry.
On the edge of the Veil, an impossible group of warriors stood gathered in the crystalline halls of the Citadel.
The Warning of the Prince
Prince Phobos, his long hair flowing like silk, gestured toward the swirling vortex of the Veil. His expression was uncharacteristically grim as he turned to the four men standing before him: Yusuke Urameshi, Takuya Kanbara, Haru Glory, and Hei.
"The Veil is thinning," Phobos admitted, his voice echoing. "Without it, we are all in real danger. Meridian isn't just a kingdom anymore; it’s a parasite waiting to consume every reality it touches."
Yusuke cracked his knuckles, a spark of Spirit Energy flickering at his fingertips. "So we just blast whatever comes through, right? Simple enough."
"It's not that simple," Hei murmured, his hand resting on the hilt of his blade, his eyes scanning the shifting shadows. "The physics here are… wrong."
The Ghost in the Machine
As if to prove Hei’s point, a swarm of twisted, translucent Apparitions drifted through the walls. They were jagged shapes of pure malice, weeping ink-black tears. They surged toward the group, passing directly through a man standing near the balcony.
Seto Kaiba didn't flinch, but his brow furrowed in cold fury as the spirits drifted through his chest as if he were made of glass.
"This doesn't make any sense," Kaiba hissed, adjusting his Duel Disk. "Those Apparitions just passed right through me. It’s like I don't even exist in this space."
"You exist, Seto," a soft, ethereal voice drifted from the ether. A woman of radiant white light appeared—Queen Kisara. She floated toward Yusuke and the others, her eyes filled with an ancient sorrow.
"The darkness is coming, and I must warn Seto," she whispered, her gaze locking onto Kaiba’s. "The evil is threatening the land. We must act quickly, or the architecture of every world will collapse. The Veil was never meant to be a permanent solution—it was a stay of execution."
The Ripple Effect
Far across the dimensions, in a world of green fields and blue skies, the atmosphere had turned a sickly violet. Ash Ketchum stood on a hill, watching as the sun seemed to bleed into the horizon. He clutched his hat, a cold shiver running down his spine that no thunderbolt could match.
What could be the true meaning of this horrible nightmare? Ash thought, his heart racing. He looked down at Pikachu, who was growling at the empty air. The world felt thin, like paper about to tear. The barrier groaned. A crack appeared in the sky above the Citadel, and the sound of a thousand screaming shadows filled the air. The Kingdom of Meridian was no longer content to stay behind the Veil.
"The nightmare isn't just a dream anymore, Ash," Phobos shouted across the dimensions, his voice piercing the void. "It's the new reality."
