The sky over Meridian wasn’t black or blue; it was a bruised purple, hemorrhaging golden light where the rift had torn a jagged hole through the dimensions.
Ash Ketchum gripped the brim of his hat, his knuckles white. Beside him, Pikachu sparked with nervous energy, sensing the wrongness in the air. This wasn't just a lost Pokémon or a rogue legendary. This was the end of the "Everywhere."
"Is this a game to you, Pegasus?" Ash asked, his voice shaking as he looked at the flamboyant man standing calmly amidst the chaos.
Maximillion Pegasus adjusted his suit, his Millennium Eye glowing with an eerie, rhythmic pulse. "Hardly, dear boy. But when the walls of reality crumble, one must look for the silver lining. This collapse is a beacon. If anything can draw the remaining Millennium Items out of the void, it is a cataclysm of this magnitude."
The Unlikely Alliance
The courtyard of the Meridian castle was a surreal crossroads of legends.
- Yusuke Urameshi leaned against a crumbling pillar, his Spirit Gun hand twitching.
- Usagi Tsukino clutched her Moon Kaleidoscope, her eyes wide with a terror she hadn't felt since the Dark Kingdom.
- Prince Phobos stood apart, his regal face twisted in a mask of disdain, though even he couldn't hide the tremor in his hands.
- Will Vandom held the Heart of Kandrakar, its glow flickering like a dying candle.
"It’s not just a rift," Taranee Cook whispered, her eyes glazed as if she were seeing two worlds at once. "Someone is... invading. I can feel them in the collective subconscious."
The Nightmare Manifest
"Is it a shadow from the Dark Mirror?" Phobos demanded, his voice sharp.
"No," Taranee replied, her voice dropping to a terrified breath. "They aren’t in our dreams. They’re using our dreams as a lens. They’re reaching into our deepest fears and pulling out the ghosts of our enemies—but it’s our own power feeding them."
As she spoke, the air began to shimmer. The scent of ozone and ancient dust filled the courtyard. From the swirling mists of the rift, shadows began to take shape:
- Giovanni loomed over Ash, backed by the silhouette of a shackled Mewtwo.
- Toguro emerged from the darkness near Yusuke, his muscles rippling with impossible strength.
- Queen Beryl’s laughter echoed through Usagi’s mind.
"They're manifest," Will shouted, the Heart of Kandrakar pulsing violently. "Our own abilities are being turned against us! My elemental energy is literally knitting these nightmares into physical form!"
The True Meaning
Ash looked at the disparate group—a Spirit Detective, a Princess of the Moon, a Guardian of the Veil, and a Duelist. They were entities that never should have shared a breath, let alone a battlefield.
"The nightmare isn't the monsters," Ash realized, looking at the rift where two primordial forces—perhaps the creators of their respective worlds—had collided and shattered. "The nightmare is that we’ve become the weapons of our own destruction."
Pegasus smiled, though it was a cold, sharp thing. "Precisely, Ash. To save reality, we must first survive ourselves."
