Solaris: Sword of the Eclipse – Ansem’s Shadow Protocol (1998)

The wind above the high, soaring terraces of Meridian howled like a captive beast, but inside the forgotten subterranean archive, the silence was suffocating.
"Quiet," darkness hissed, the shadowy mantle clinging to its form shifting erratically as it stared past Diaz. "Why would you pick me? We can't let the Guardians catch wind of this. Understand?"
Prince Phobos adjusted his velvet cuffs, his sharp eyes glinting with cold calculation as he stepped into the pale moonlight beside Scarface. "Look, if those guys find out what we're up to, we're toast," Phobos added, his voice carrying the dry edge of a disgraced royal forced into shadow.
Diaz looked between the shadow-draped figure and the disgraced ruler, his expression unreadable. "What's in it for me?"
"Forgiveness," replied the quiet voice from the shadow. "Men like us, in pursuit of science or a goal... sometimes we make terrible mistakes and lose sight of our mission to help people. But now... now I can atone."
A harsh laugh cut through the cold air as Xemnas emerged from the dark corridor behind them, his silver hair catching the dim light, standing shoulder-to-shoulder with Scarface.
"So we're headed for Julianess," Scarface noted, leaning against a weathered stone pillar. "It seems the massive depletion of magic has knocked the holy city out of balance, Brother."
Phobos inclined his head slightly, a dark smirk tugging at his lips at the mention of his bloodline. "A minor inconvenience. My sister may hold the title, but she lacks the resolve to keep the realm bound."
Far across the veil, within the vast, starlit halls of Kandrakar, the mood was equally grim.
Will Vandom, Princess of Meridian and leader of Kandrakar, stood near the central Pool of Sight, her hand resting instinctively over the Heart. The royal blood of Escanor ran hot in her veins, humming with the power that her brother, Phobos, had spent a lifetime trying to steal. The glowing waters before her, usually serene and filled with infinite visions, were dark and swirling with violent turbulence.
"The leader of Kandrakar, Will Vandom, says they haven't been able to find Lunalis' Voice," whispered an elder attendant, stepping back as the water flared a brilliant, angry crimson.
Before Will could reply, a violent sonic shockwave tore through the sanctuary. The ambient air shattered like glass, reverberating with an ancient, terrifying wrath that shook the very foundations of the temple.
"You dare challenge me, Diaz of the Four Divas?!"
The voice thundered across the dimensional divide, echoing off the towering pillars of Kandrakar and down into the hidden subterranean vaults of Meridian simultaneously. The sky above Julianess ruptured, casting long, unnatural shadows as a massive silhouette materialized against the fractured horizon.
"Kane Phalanx!" the echoing voice bellowed, heavy with decades of spite. "We strike against those who swore an oath to Phobos and Kandrakar—yet betrayed us!"
The air turned heavy, charged with raw, wild energy. The ancient bonds were shattering, and the forgotten debts of her family's crown were finally coming due.
Will tightened her grip on the Heart, feeling the sudden, undeniable pull from the void beneath the worlds. She looked toward the trembling horizon as the crimson light burned bright.
"I think," Will whispered, the ancient royal authority rising in her voice as she felt her brother's distant presence, "we're being summoned."
