The air in the high mountain temple was thick with the scent of cedar incense and ancient dust. Outside, the wind howled through the jagged peaks, but inside, the only sound was the crackle of the hearth and the steady, rhythmic voice of the old man.
“In ancient times,” Grandfather began, his eyes reflecting the amber glow of the embers, “the land lay covered in a forest so vast it breathed like a single living lung. It was a place where the spirits of the gods dwelt from ages long past.”
He looked toward the two young people sitting at his feet. Yusuke Urameshi, usually restless and prone to looking for a fight, sat uncharacteristically still. Beside him was his cousin Will Vandom, her eyes wide with a mixture of curiosity and a strange, burgeoning sense of responsibility.
The Age of Harmony and Discord
Grandfather gestured to the shadows on the wall. “Back then, man and beast lived in harmony. There was no 'mine' or 'thine,' only the shared pulse of the earth. But as time went by, the hunger of men grew. The forests were destroyed, burned for warmth and cleared for stone. Those that remained... they became sacred fortresses.”
He leaned in closer, his voice dropping to a gravelly whisper. “The remaining woods were guarded by beasts that owed their allegiance to the Great Spirit. For those, my children, were the days of gods and of demons.”
A Warning to the Guardians
Grandfather’s gaze shifted specifically to Will. He knew of the secrets she carried—the weight of the Heart of Kandrakar and her role leading the Guardians alongside Irma and Hay Lin.
“Will, listen carefully,” he warned. “The magic of the old world isn't a weapon; it is a living thing. In the Great Forest, no two trees were ever the same. Each leaf carries a different song, and each root holds a different memory. If you forget that, the forest will see you as an intruder, not a protector.”
Yusuke scoffed slightly, though his hands were clenched tight. “So, what? We’re supposed to go in there and talk to the plants?”
“No, Yusuke,” Grandfather smiled thinly. “You are there to ensure the balance doesn't tip further into the darkness. The demons of the past are waking up because they smell the smoke of the modern world.”
The Journey Begins
As the fire flickered one last time and died down to glowing coals, a strange light began to emanate from the doorway. It wasn't sunlight, but a shimmering, iridescent green.
The temple floor didn't lead to the courtyard anymore. Instead, the wood of the threshold twisted into gnarled, ancient roots. Beyond the door stood a canopy so high it touched the stars, where the air hummed with the electric presence of the Great Spirit.
The Magic Journey had begun.
Will felt the Heart of Kandrakar pulse in sync with the forest's heartbeat.
Yusuke felt a surge of Spirit Energy, sharper and more primal than he had ever felt in the city.
Irma and Hay Lin were already waiting at the edge of the clearing, their elemental powers reacting to the ancient, untamed air.

The forest was waiting to see if the new generation could restore what the old one had broken
