The Tower of the Dragon, In the Realm of Mirrors & Crowned by Code Hard Rock Type Beat

The parchment felt more like dried skin than paper, cold and hummed with a faint, rhythmic vibration. I looked at Yugi, whose violet eyes were narrowed, scanning the jagged treeline of the forest we had suddenly materialized in.

"Where are we, Yugi?" I whispered, clutching the scrap of the map.

"I don't know," he replied, his voice tight. "But there’s a definite feeling of something evil here. Something ancient."

The Fragment of Meridian

This scrap of reality shouldn't have been in my hands. It was once part of a Great Map that hung in the obsidian halls of Prince Phobos’s castle. During the height of the rebellion, a soldier—desperate and bleeding—had ripped this specific section away. It was the only part showing our world, the only bridge left.

He had escaped through a closing portal and handed it to a Passling, one of those rare wanderers who drift between dimensions. From the Passling, it had found its way to me.

In our world, the map looked like a blank, useless piece of vellum. But here, in the dim, sickly light of this new realm, it began to glow. It could only be activated by the Heart of Meridian, and though I didn't possess the jewel, the sheer proximity to this world's core was causing the ink to bleed through the surface.

A Collision of Worlds

As the lines on the map pulsed, a blue-haired girl in a kimono skidded down a nearby ridge, nearly colliding with us. It was Botan, the spirit guide, looking more frazzled than I’d ever seen her.

"Tsunami told me the news!" she shouted, not even pausing to ask who we were. "The River Styx has flooded, and Lord Koenma is losing control of the gates! The barrier between the Spirit World and the Netherworld is paper-thin!"

"Is that what's causing this?" Yugi asked, gesturing to the suffocating atmosphere.

"It’s worse than a flood," Botan said, her eyes wide. "Phantoms from the Netherworld have crossed over. They’re wearing the pattern of a cross on their foreheads—high-level demons. They aren’t just raiding; they’re searching for something."

The Hunter and the Map

A low growl echoed through the trees. From the shadows emerged a figure with a cross etched into his brow, his eyes glowing with a predatory hunger. He didn't look at Botan, and he didn't look at Yugi. His gaze was fixed entirely on the scrap of parchment in my hand.

Phobos wanted his map back. If he regained this fragment, the barrier between our world and his wouldn't just be a door—it would be a permanent bridge for his conquest.

"There must be a way out," I said, backing up as the map began to burn hot in my grip.

"There is," Yugi said, stepping in front of me, his hand resting on his Deck. "But we’re going to have to fight our way to it."
