The Phobos Seal: A Rogue Spirit Sleuth & The Enemy Within - Hard Rock Type Beat
The flickering torchlight in the Heart of Meridian cast long, distorted shadows against the murals of past kings. Phobos stood before a tapestry of the Spirit Realm, his voice hushed as he spoke of a man who had once been his greatest hope.
"In all my reign, nothing seemed more natural than choosing Sensui," Phobos whispered, his eyes distant. "He could sense apparitions from a young age, and they were drawn to him like magnets. But Sensui had something more—he was able to destroy them."
Yusuke Urameshi leaned against a cold stone pillar, his brow furrowed. He knew the story of Shinobu Sensui all too well—the detective who broke.
"To him, the world was black and white," Phobos continued, his grip tightening on his staff. "Apparitions were evil, so he had to destroy them. But then he saw what changed him. He saw something he never should have seen." Phobos shuddered, a rare show of emotion. "Gray. Truckloads of gray. He realized the humans he protected were often more monstrous than the demons he slew. That balance... it shatters a man."
The Siege of Two Fronts
Yusuke spat on the floor, shaking off the grim history. The ground beneath the castle vibrated with the rhythmic thumping of rebel battering rams and the screeching of demon hordes.
"We don't have time for ghost stories," Yusuke barked. "Double the guards on every entry into the castle and on every lookout tower. They know are roots we can't fight on two flanks—the demons and the rebels."
Phobos turned to him, his face a mask of royal desperation. "How do I find the spy? If my own people are feeding the demons, Meridian is already lost."
Yusuke looked at his own hands, the spirit energy flickering weakly, dampened by the darkness of the castle. "At last, I think I understand... it is not power or the pursuit of power that makes one a warrior." He gritted his teeth, his voice breaking. "Why won't the light glow in me? I am stronger than everyone!"
The Silent Observer
"Your greatest enemy lies within," a cold voice rang out from the balcony.
Sesshomaru stood there, the moonlight catching the silver of his hair and the jagged markings on his face. He looked upon the chaos of Meridian with utter boredom.
Phobos sneered. "You are Inuyasha’s older brother. You possess the blood of a Great Demon. Tell me, you truly must loathe the Guardians, or are you merely testing their powers?"
Sesshomaru stepped down, his movements fluid and lethal. "I loathe every creature that is bound to time," he replied, his voice a chilling breeze. "The Guardians fight for a peace that will rot. The rebels fight for a throne that will crumble. It is all a waste of breath."
He paused, his eyes glowing with a faint, dangerous light as he looked toward the forest where his brother’s scent lingered.
"Do what you wish, but I warn you," Sesshomaru told Phobos and Urameshi, his hand resting on the hilt of Bakusaiga. "I will be the one to deal with my brother."
The walls are cracking. As the "truckloads of gray" morality begins to weigh on Yusuke, the physical battle reaches the inner sanctum.
