Tales Before Bed, Maladies of the Imagination, and The Keeper of Chronicles Power Pop Type Beat
The air in the void between worlds felt thin, like a memory fading at the edges. Yusuke Urameshi leaned against a jagged pillar of shadow, staring at his hands.
"I’ve been having these weird thoughts lately," Yusuke muttered, his voice echoing in the emptiness. "Like... is any of this for real or not?"
Standing across from him, Prince Phobos—the fallen tyrant of Meridian—offered a cold, sharp smile. He paced like a wolf around Yusuke and the younger boy standing nearby, Takuya Kanbara.
"It is a fragile realization, Spirit Detective," Phobos whispered. "But the reality is simpler than you fear. Soon, you yourself will vanish from this world. And without your powers, you cannot go home."
The Illusion of Choice
Takuya gripped his D-Tector, his knuckles white. "You're lying. We’ve fought guys like you before. Dreams don't just erase people."
"But this isn't a simple dream, Digidestined," Phobos countered, his long hair swaying as he turned. "It is the same dream every night for a reason. You think the wicked Queen Narissa is the one weaving this web? That she changed her shape to pose as your allies?"
Phobos let out a dry, hollow laugh.
"The good news is: Narissa didn't do this. The bad news? It was Botan."
The Twisted Wish
Yusuke flinched. The idea of the bubbly, blue-haired Grim Reaper being the architect of this nightmare was impossible. But Phobos continued, explaining how Botan had been listening to Will Vandom’s stories of the Guardians—stories of power, sacrifice, and shifting realities.
Those stories had set something off in Botan. She began wishing again, dreaming of a world where the danger was gone, even if it meant locking everyone away.
"As soon as anyone enters her 'perfect world,' they are trapped in darkness," Phobos explained, stepping closer to the two heroes. "But they won't even notice the change. They will simply think they are living their lives, while their souls wither in the dark."
The Price of the Dream
From the shadows at the edge of the void, a pale, snake-like figure emerged. Orochimaru watched the interaction with yellow, slit-pupil eyes, his interest piqued by the metaphysical toll of the trap.
"A fascinating prison," Orochimaru hissed, looking toward Phobos. "But tell me, Prince... is it possible for someone to become sick from a dream?"
Phobos turned his gaze to the Sannin. "It is more than sickness, Orochimaru. It is erosion. When the mind accepts the lie, the body forgets how to exist in the truth."
Yusuke felt a cold sweat break out on his neck. His Spirit Gun felt heavy—or was it feeling lighter? As if it were turning into mist. Takuya’s Digivice flickered, the screen dimming.
"If we don't wake Botan up," Takuya realized, "we won't just die. We'll just... stop being."
