Broken Vow: King Peter and the Memories of the Stars
The air in the subterranean vault was thick with the scent of ozone and ancient dust. In the center of the chamber, resting upon a pedestal of obsidian, pulsed a crimson gem the size of a dragon’s head. It didn’t just glow; it beat like a living heart.
Jak stepped forward, the flickering torchlight dancing in his wide eyes. He reached out a trembling hand but stopped inches from the heat radiating from the crystal.
"’We the people of Torra pledge our undying allegiance to Odin, King of Deltora and Symphonia, and the royal bloodline,’" Jak whispered, reciting the etched inscriptions lining the walls. "’If this vow is ever broken, may the Great Stone of Fire—the heart of our city—crack and decay, and may our people be swept away.’"
He turned back to his companions, his voice cracking. "Is this it? Is this the Stone of Fire?"
The Council of Travelers
Haru Glory adjusted the strap of his Decalorce sword, his gaze fixed on the gem’s swirling depths. "It feels like it," he murmured. "The energy coming off it... it’s not just heat. It’s power. It feels like the Ravelt, but older. More primal."
Edmond Pevensie, looking every bit the King of Narnia despite his travel-worn clothes, stepped up beside Haru. He examined the hairline fractures beginning to spiderweb across the pedestal. "The vow has been shaken," Edmond noted grimly. "Look at the base. If Torra’s loyalty to the bloodline flickers, the stone reacts. We aren't just looking at a battery; we’re looking at a physical manifestation of a contract."
Leaf, the Knight of Deltora, stood at the rear, his hand never leaving the hilt of his blade. He was a man of the earth and the belt, and he knew the weight of such stones better than anyone.
"It is the Stone, Jak," Leaf confirmed, his voice heavy with the weight of their mission. "But it's more than a relic. In Deltora, we know that stones have memories. This one remembers a King named Odin who ruled two worlds—one of melody and one of shadow. If the stone decays, the barrier between Symphonia and Deltora collapses. The 'sweeping away' isn't just a metaphor; it’s a flood of chaos."
The Price of Allegiance
The room groaned. A small flake of crimson crystal chipped off the top of the stone, dissolving into ash before it hit the floor.
"The bloodline is in danger," Edmond said, drawing his sword. "The vow is breaking because the heir is being forgotten. We didn't come here just to find the stone—we came to see if there was anything left to save."
Jak looked at the stone, then at his friends. The "Heart of the City" was dying because the people had lost their way.
"Then we don't just take it," Jak said, his resolve hardening. "We remind them. We bring the King back to his throne, or we all go down with the Stone."
Leaf nodded, a grim smile touching his lips. "Spoken like a true knight. Let’s move. The Stone of Fire is burning out, and we’re the only ones left with a spark."
