Knights of the Blue Sky: Blood-Feud in the Dark Forest and the Black Angel’s Revenge
The canopy above was a tangled web of obsidian limbs, weaving together so tightly that not even a stray glimmer of starlight could pierce the veil. In the silence of the woods, the only sound was the frantic, rhythmic pulsing of the Ruby on the Belt of Deltora.
"I have never seen a place as dark as this," Jasmine whispered, her hand resting on the rough, weeping bark of a tree that seemed to cringe under her touch. "That is why they call it the Dark. There is a guardian here that even the trees fear."
Lief felt the warmth of the Ruby radiating against his waist—a steady, thrumming heat that signaled a presence far more ancient than a mere beast of the forest. Beside him, Barda drew his sword, the steel looking dull and grey in the absolute gloom.
"An evil dwells here," Jasmine continued, her eyes darting through the shadows. "An old and wicked evil."
"It’s not what I sensed, though," a new voice interjected, casual yet sharp.
Yusuke Urameshi stepped forward, his hands shoved deep into his pockets. Genkai stood just behind him, her expression unreadable, her Spirit Wave senses dialed to their absolute limit. Yusuke kicked at a rotted root, his brow furrowed in a way that suggested he was solving a puzzle he didn't particularly like.
"It’s what I didn't sense," Yusuke clarified, looking at Lief and then back into the abyss of the trees. "Like who I saw wasn't the real thing. It’s a hollow feeling, like a bad echo."
Genkai nodded curtly, her voice gravelly. "Listen to the boy. This isn't a straightforward power play."
"Exactly," Yusuke added, a grim smirk playing on his lips. "If Toguro was all about the fast ball, this guy definitely likes the curve."
The Atmosphere of the Dark
The group stood at a crossroads where magic and spirit energy blurred. The air felt thick, like invisible wool pressing against their lungs.Suddenly, the Ruby flared with a blinding crimson light. From the hollow of a massive, blackened oak, a figure began to peel itself away from the bark. It didn't have a face—just a porcelain-smooth surface where features should be, reflecting the Ruby’s glow like a warped mirror.
"It's a Shadow-Morph," Lief shouted, hand gripping the hilt of the Topaz.
"Call it whatever you want," Yusuke said, his finger beginning to glow with a concentrated spark of blue Spirit Gun energy. "But it's playing a shell game with its soul. It's projecting its presence twenty feet to the left while it's actually standing right in front of us."
"Don't just fire blindly, you dimwit!" Genkai barked. "If you miss the core, the Dark will just swallow the energy and use it against us."
Jasmine leaped onto a low-hanging branch, her dagger drawn. "The trees... they aren't just afraid. They're being drained. The 'Guardian' isn't guarding the forest; it's eating it."
The creature tilted its blank head. It didn't charge. It didn't roar. It simply began to dissolve into a black mist that smelled of ancient dust and stagnant water.
"See?" Yusuke muttered, his eyes tracking a movement that no one else could see. "Curveball. He wants us to exhaust ourselves swinging at air."
Lief raised the Belt high, the gems beginning to harmonize. "Then we give him a target he can't ignore."
As the light of Deltora clashed with the oppressive weight of the Dark, the real battle began—not a test of strength, but a hunt for the truth hidden behind the shadows.
