The Sacred Pool: Legend of the Crimson Ruby & The Mystery of John Ace
The air in Uncle Andrew’s study had been thick with the smell of dust and old magic, but in a heartbeat, the walls flickered like a dying candle and vanished.
Lief, the King of Deltora, felt the sensation of falling—not through air, but through layers of heavy sleep. Beside him, Chase Suno gripped his core, and young Digory Kirke let out a sharp cry. There was a sudden, muted splash, and the world turned cool and green.
The Wood Between the Worlds
When the three of them scrambled out of the water and onto the soft, spongy earth, they didn't shake themselves dry. They didn't have to.
"We're... dry," Chase muttered, checking his jacket. "How are we dry? We just submerged in a lake."
"It isn't a lake," Digory whispered, his eyes wide as he looked around at the endless rows of trees. The light here was strange—a dreaming, leafy green that seemed to come from the air itself. "If we got into this world through a pool, perhaps there is a world at the bottom of every pool."
Lief stood, his hand instinctively moving to the Belt of Deltora. The Topaz glowed with a steady, cautious light, signaling that while there was no immediate malice, they were in a place of immense power.
"A crossroads," Lief mused. "A nexus between realms."
Shadows in the Hallway
"This looks like some sort of hall," a deep, gravelly voice interjected.
Emerging from behind a massive, ancient oak was Doom—the man once known as Jared, the Knight of Deltora and father to Queen Jasmine. His face was set in its usual grim mask of determination, his eyes scanning the canopy. "This must be the main pillar. I have a feeling we're not alone."
As if summoned by his words, another figure stepped into the light. He was tall, golden-haired, and bore a shield emblazoned with a red lion.
"You have a keen instinct, Knight," King Peter Pevensie said, his hand resting easily on the hilt of Rhindon. He looked at Lief, recognizing the weight of a crown in the younger man's eyes.
"High King Peter?" Digory gasped, recognizing the legendary figure from the stories of his own future—or perhaps his past. The timelines of the Wood were a tangled web.
"The very same," Peter said with a solemn nod. "But we cannot linger in the silence of these woods. This place is a transit, not a destination. Whatever force pulled Uncle Andrew’s study apart is likely pulling at the seams of our own worlds next."
The Journey Onward
The group stood in a circle: a King of Narnia, a King of Deltora, a Mon-Wheeler from a high-tech future, a boy who had touched the beginning of time, and a shadow-knight who had survived the pits of the Shadow Lord.
"The pools are ripples," Lief said, looking at the dozens of identical puddles stretching into the distance. "And we are the stones thrown into them."
"Then we find the stone-thrower," Doom said, drawing his sword.
Peter looked toward a pool that seemed to shimmer with a faint, golden light, different from the others. "We have to keep going, Lief of Deltora. Narnia, Deltora, and Earth... they are all connected now. And if we don't move, we'll become part of the scenery."
With a shared glance of grim resolve, the fellowship of displaced heroes turned toward the water.
"On three," Chase said, his thumb hovering over his controller. "One... two... three!"
Together, they leaped.
