Red Data Shaman: The Ripto Awakening

The sky over the Midnight Plateau wasn’t black or blue; it was a swirling vortex of violet energy, a tear in the fabric of the worlds that had dragged four strangers into its center.

Zoey stood at the edge of a jagged floating rock, her pink boots clicking against the stone. She adjusted her lace chokers and gripped her Strawberry Bell, her heart racing. "This definitely isn't Tokyo," she muttered, looking down at the endless clouds of stardust below.

"And it’s definitely not the Shadowlands," a voice called out.

Zoey turned to see a girl about her age, dressed in practical traveling leathers with a green tunic. Leaf stepped forward, her hand resting cautiously on the hilt of her dagger. Behind her stood a young man with wild, silver hair and a massive, blunt-edged sword strapped to his back.

"I’m Haru," the swordsman said, offering a small, confident smile despite the gravity of the situation. "And this is Leaf. We were following a trail of dark energy when the ground literally vanished beneath us."

"Make that four of us," a new voice drawled. A boy with a yellow bandana and oversized headphones leaned against a nearby pillar of obsidian. A spectral glow flickered behind him—the faint, fiery outline of a samurai spirit. "Name’s Yoh Asakura. Or, well, I’m Yoh’s successor in spirit, but you can call me Sho. Things are looking pretty 'patchy' around here, don’t you think?"

Before Haru could respond, the violet sky curdled. A swarm of Shadow-Beasts—amalgamations of jagged metal and dark smoke—erupted from the rift.

"They're coming!" Zoey cried, her DNA humming with feline instinct. "Mew Mew Strawberry, Metamorphosis!"

In a flash of pink light, she took her stance, her ribboned bell glowing. Beside her, Haru unsheathed the Ten Powers. The blade hummed, shifting its form into the Explosion sword, its edge crackling with orange heat.

"Leaf, stay close!" Haru shouted.

"I can handle myself, Glory!" Leaf snapped back, already diving into a roll. She didn't have magic bells or giant swords, but she had the cunning of the forests. She flung a handful of smoke-bombs, blinding the first wave of beasts, then used the distraction to drive her blade into the weak points of their armor.

Sho moved with a rhythmic, detached grace. "Oversoul!" he shouted. The spirit behind him merged into his wooden sword, elongating the blade into a beam of pure celestial energy. He sliced through a Shadow-Beast with a single, effortless swing. "Take it easy, guys. If we lose our cool, we lose the fight."

"Easy for you to say!" Zoey shouted, leaping into the air. "Ribbon Strawberry Checkmate!"

The burst of pink energy collided with Haru’s explosive strike, creating a massive shockwave of light that cleared the plateau. For a moment, there was silence.

The four warriors stood back-to-back, a patchwork team from worlds that should never have met. Haru sheathed his sword, looking at the others with newfound respect.

"We don't know why we're here," Haru said, his eyes scanning the horizon where a dark tower was beginning to manifest within the rift. "But I have a feeling that as long as we’re together, that evil won’t stay standing for long."

Sho grinned, adjusting his headphones. "Guess we better get moving then. We’ve got a world—or four—to save."
