The Big Smoke: Battle for Dred MountainThe Legend of High King Peter

The air in the Shadow Lands didn’t just feel cold; it felt heavy, like breathing in wet wool and old soot. Above them, the sky was a bruised purple, devoid of stars or sun.
Leaf, the young King of Deltora, adjusted the heavy weight of the Belt of Deltora beneath his tunic. Beside him walked a motley assembly of legends pulled from the seams of different worlds. High King Peter Pevensie gripped the hilt of Rhindon, his eyes scanning the jagged horizon with the tactical precision of a general. Jak leaned against a scorched rock, his hand hovering near his scattergun, while the samurai Himura Kenshin walked with a silent, ghostly grace, his hand resting lightly on the hilt of his sakabatō.
"I don’t suppose any of the other dragons saw people like us in their dreams," Leaf murmured, his voice cracking the oppressive silence. He looked at the charred remains of a campsite they had stumbled upon—iron shackles, broken pottery, and footprints that didn't belong to monsters. "Here... it looks like we’re not the only people to make a trip to Dread Mountain."
From the obsidian mist emerged a hulking, cloaked figure. His presence was like a mountain moving through the fog.
"So, you two are from the 'Big Smoke,' right?" The man’s voice was like grinding stones. "Kleiver is the name. Stick with me and I’ll take care of you."
The Shadow of the Lord
Kleiver gestured toward the valley below, where the flickering, sickly green fires of the Shadow Lord’s outposts dotted the landscape.
"This is how the kingdom currently stands," Kleiver spat, his eyes hardened by years of survival. "This is what the new era the Shadow Lord is creating looks like. Humans are weak against terror and violence, and he knows it. In his eyes, their only purpose is to live as cattle—to toil until they drop. Under his thumb, they lose all glimmers of hope and dreams."
The Internal Compass
Kenshin stopped, his head bowed. The wind caught his red hair, tossing it against the darkness. For a moment, the weight of the Shadow Lord’s malice seemed to press down on them all, threatening to extinguish their resolve.
Who exactly am I? Kenshin thought, the old scars of the Battousai itching in the damp air. All is darkness around me.
He looked at Peter, whose face remained a mask of Narnian royalty, then at Leaf, who carried the burden of an entire stolen heritage. Kenshin tightened his grip on his sword. He felt the darkness trying to seep into his mind, whispering that peace was a lie and that the Shadow Lord had already won.
But I will never despair, Kenshin resolved. There are only three things of which I am sure.
Identity: I know that I am a man—not a demon, not a butcher, but a man who chooses his path.
History: I know where I have been—through the fires of the revolution and the blood of the Kyoto streets.
Purpose: I know what I must do—I must protect those who cannot protect themselves.
"And for now," Kenshin said aloud, his voice steady and calm, "that has to be enough."
Into the Breach
Peter Pevensie drew his sword, the steel gleaming with an inner light that seemed to repel the encroaching fog. "He thinks humans are weak because they feel fear," Peter said, looking toward Dread Mountain. "But he forgets that courage isn't the absence of fear. It’s the will to move forward despite it."
Jak checked his ammo, a grim smirk crossing his face. "If this Shadow Lord thinks we're just here to be 'cattle,' he's in for a hell of a surprise."
Leaf looked at Kleiver. "Lead the way. We have a mountain to climb and a shadow to break."
Kleiver nodded, a rare, toothy grin appearing beneath his hood. Together, the King, the Knight, the Outlaw, and the Samurai stepped out of the shallow cover of the rocks and marched deeper into the heart of the Shadow Lands, four sparks of light in a world that had forgotten what the dawn looked like.
