Castle Through the Looking Glass: The Shadow Lord's Whispering Chasm
The sky over the border of Deltora and Symphonia wasn't just dark; it was heavy, like a shroud woven from the very shadows Xemmnas had described.
Lief adjusted the grip on his sword, the Belt of Deltora beneath his tunic humming with a faint, anxious heat. Beside him, Haru Glory stared at the horizon, the Decorcea in his hand reflecting the sickly purple hue of the clouds.
The Echo of Shadows
The words of the Nobody king, Xemmnas, felt less like a memory and more like a curse vibrating in the air:
"Sleep holds our dreams, dreams hold our memories, and darkness holds our sleep."
"He wasn’t just being poetic," Haru muttered, his voice tight. "He was describing a cage. If the Rave Stones and the Belt’s gems aren't reunited, this darkness won't just cover the land—it’ll swallow the people inside it."
The Vanishing Fortress
The group came to a halt at the edge of a jagged cliff. According to the ancient charts they had retrieved from the Resistance, they should have been staring at the gates of the Shadow King’s northern outpost.
"According to the map, the castle should be right there!" Sesshomaru exclaimed, his golden eyes narrowing in uncharacteristic frustration. He gestured toward a vast, empty plain of grey dust. "But there is not a single remnant left. Not a stone, not a scent."
"It’s a spatial distortion," Po, the Dragon Warrior, added, pacing nervously. He lacked his usual jovial bounce. "I can feel the Chi of the place, but it’s like someone took the castle and tucked it into a pocket. We're standing on the doorstep, but the door is gone."
The Vulnerability of the Moon
A few paces behind the group, Inuyasha sat leaned against a gnarled, dead tree. He pulled his robe tighter, his breath hitching. His white hair felt heavy, and for the first time in weeks, his ears felt... human.
When is this night going to end? he thought bitterly. If I go out into that clearing now, Naraku will know. I lose my powers under the new moon, and in this silence, I can practically hear him laughing.
It was quiet. Way too quiet. In Deltora, even the monsters made noise. In Symphonia, the wind usually whistled through the ruins. But here, at the intersection of their worlds, the silence was an entity of its own. It was the sound of a world holding its breath, waiting for the darkness to finally close its eyes.
"Lief," Haru called out, his eyes fixed on the empty space where a castle should be. "The map isn't wrong. The world is just forgetting what was there."
Lief touched the centerpiece of his belt. "Then we'd better start remembering—and fast."
