The Guiding Key: Wings Over Gaul’s Citadel
The humid air of the Kingdom Hearts realm shimmered with magical residue as the mismatched group of legends came to a halt. Before them stood a set of iron doors so massive they seemed to hold up the ceiling of the cavern itself.
Yusuke Urameshi cracked his knuckles, a familiar blue light flickering around his fingertips. "G and C? What’s that supposed to mean? 'Giant Crags'? 'Great Cooking'?"
"I don't think it's an invitation to lunch, Yusuke," Sora said, resting his Keyblade over his shoulder. He traced the ornate engravings with his eyes. "There’s a weird energy coming from behind these."
Sakura Avalon clutched her sealing wand tight, her Star Cape fluttering in a wind that shouldn't have existed. "It feels… heavy. Like a dream that’s turned into a labyrinth."
Beside her, Sailor Moon adjusted her tiara, her face pale. "I have a bad feeling about this. My intuition is screaming that there are things in there that definitely don't appreciate Moon Prism Power."
Haru Glory gripped the hilt of the Decaforce Sword. "Whatever it is, we aren't turning back. We have a world to save."
Suddenly, the air was sliced by a piercing, 8-bit digital chirp. A voice, sounding like a synthesized relic from a 1980s arcade cabinet, boomed through the chamber:
"WELCOME TO GOBLIN CITY. INSERT COIN? NO... INSERT BRAVERY. SEVEN HEROES SHALL CLASH SWORDS WITH THE EVIL GOBLIN KING. RESTORE THE PIXELS. RESTORE THE PEACE."
"Seven?" Yusuke blinked, looking around. "Hey, Sparky, I only count five of us. Did the machine glitch out or can I just not count?"
"It’s not a glitch," a calm, weathered voice interrupted.
From a swirl of golden dust emerged Gaul the Sage. His robes seemed to be woven from the very stars of the Realm of Light. He looked at the iron doors with a grim expression.
"The King of this city plays with the mind as much as the blade," Gaul explained. "He counts the shadows you cast and the allies yet to arrive. But listen well: the iron doors are a trap. If you enter through the front, you will be lost in the Labyrinth of Eternal Stench before you can even draw your weapons."
"Then how do we get to the Citadel?" Haru asked, stepping forward.
Gaul pointed a gnarled staff toward a jagged crack in the rock wall to their left, where a low, orange glow pulsed like a heartbeat.
"The underground Lava Tube," the Sage commanded. "It is the city’s plumbing—hot, dangerous, and ignored by the King’s scouts. Follow the heat. It is the only path that leads directly beneath the Citadel's throne room."
Sailor Moon groaned, looking at her boots. "Lava? My hair is going to frizz before we even get to the boss fight!"
"Better frizz than being a goblin's dinner," Yusuke grinned, his Spirit Gun glowing brighter. "C'mon, let’s go see if this King handles a Spirit Wave better than he handles a joystick."
