The Dark Angel: Blood on the River Styx

The air over the Kingdom of Meridian was thick with the scent of ozone and ancient magic. Haru Glory gripped the hilt of the Decaforce Sword, his knuckles white. Behind him, the unconscious form of Ellie—the girl the world knew only as Experiment 3173—lay cradled in a bed of crystal.
Well, well, Haru thought, his eyes tracking the retreating, battered figure of the High Alchemist in the distance. I guess Siegheart couldn't finish the job. I guess it’s up to me now.
The power of Etherion hummed within Ellie, a volatile tide capable of erasing existence itself. To the Shadow Guard, she was a weapon to be dismantled. To Haru, she was the daughter of Resha Valentine, a soul worth saving.
"There has to be another way," Haru muttered. "I can't destroy her."
A Rift in Perception
"It’s not what I sensed though, Genkai," a voice cracked through the tension like a whip.
Haru turned to see Yusuke Urameshi leaning against a crumbling pillar, his Spirit Detective jacket torn at the shoulder. He wasn't looking at the girl; he was looking at the horizon where the enemy had supposedly fled.
"It’s what I didn’t sense," Yusuke continued, his eyes narrowing. "Like... whoever we just fought? That wasn't the real thing. No soul, no grit. Just a shell."
"A decoy?" Haru asked, stepping forward.
Before Yusuke could answer, a shadow lengthened across the ground. A man in ornate, heavy armor materialized from the mist—Jagen, the veteran tactician of the Shadow Guard.
"The King of the Shadow Guard wants to see you both," Jagen announced, his voice like grinding stones. "Haru Glory. Yusuke Urameshi. Follow me."
The Verdict of the King
The audience chamber was cold. The King didn't waste time with pleasantries. He looked at Haru’s sword and then at Yusuke’s glowing fingertips.
"You are brave, but you are outmatched," the King stated. "You cannot defeat the true enemy at your current level. If you wish to protect the Etherion wielder and save Meridian, you need the Rave of Combat."
"Where is it?" Haru demanded.
"On the Lyric Continent," Jagen answered. "A place where physical strength and spirit energy are tested by the rhythm of the land itself."
Preparations for the Journey
As they walked toward the docks to begin the trek across the sea, they passed Siegheart, who was leaning against a wall, coughing up silver blood. He had tried to neutralize the threat alone and paid the price in mana exhaustion.
Yusuke stopped, looking the blue-haired elemental master up and down. He cracked his neck and gave a cocky grin, though his eyes stayed serious.
"Hey, Siegheart," Yusuke called out. "Rest up. We’re heading to Lyric. Make sure you’re ready for the real round when we get back, 'cause I'm not planning on losing twice."
Haru nodded to his comrade, the weight of the Rave Stones feeling heavier than ever. The journey to Lyric Continent would change them—or break them.
