Serpents Magna: Doryus Squad – Reflections of the Abyss
The air in the war room of Symphonia was thick with the scent of old parchment and the metallic tang of Haru’s Ten Commandments sword. Around a circular stone table, an impossible gathering of legends stood in tense silence, staring at a map of the continent currently being devoured by chaos.
"Things were more manageable with the Shadow Guard in power!" Haru Glory shouted, his fist slamming against the table with a crack that echoed through the hall. "At least we knew where the enemy was. Now, it’s just fire and blood everywhere you look."
Yusuke Urameshi leaned back in his chair, his feet propped up on the table, looking entirely too relaxed for a man facing the end of the world. "Yeah, well, the 'good old days' involved demons trying to eat my neighbors, so I’m not exactly nostalgic, kid. But you’re right about one thing—this vacuum sucked in something worse."
"The Doryu Raid Squad," Maximillion Pegasus purred, swirling a glass of wine as he adjusted his suit. He looked remarkably unbothered, though his golden Millennium Eye pulsed with a faint, rhythmic light. "They aren’t just a gang, Haru-boy. They are a deck stacked with jokers. If they decide to move, the other hundreds of petty gangs won't just be defeated—they’ll be erased."
Prince Phobos stood by the window, his long hair catching the dim light of the setting sun. He didn't look at the others; his gaze was fixed on the horizon where the smoke of burning villages rose. "Order is a fragile thing," Phobos murmured, his voice like cold silk. "You heroes spent so much energy tearing down the old walls that you forgot those walls kept the real monsters out. Now, the Doryu are the masters of this lawless garden."
In the corner of the room, Sakura Avalon sat perfectly still, her hands gripped tightly in her lap. Her mind was a whirlwind of confusion. I was just in the library, she thought, her heart hammering against her ribs. I opened that leather-bound book with the strange crest, and then the room started to spin. Did I really get pulled into the book I was reading? Is this... is this real?
"Hey, kid."
Sakura jumped. Yusuke was looking at her, his dark eyes softening just a fraction. "You’ve been quiet. You got some magic trick up your sleeve that can handle a thousand angry thugs at once?"
"I... I have my cards," Sakura whispered, reaching for the pouch at her side, relieved to find it still there. "But I don't know if they work the same way here."
"They had better," Phobos said, turning from the window with a chilling smile. "Because the scouts just reported in. The Doryu Raid Squad isn't waiting for us to make a plan. They're three miles from the gates of Symphonia. It seems they want to make their 'master of the world' status official tonight."
Haru unsheathed his sword, the blade glowing with the light of the Rave Stone. "Then we stop talking. If the Shadow Guard isn't here to keep the peace, then we'll just have to be the ones to enforce it."
