Dragon Runes: The River Styx and the Heart of Light

The air in Xanadu was not just thick; it was syrupy. It tasted of ozone, ancient cedar, and the copper tang of something dying. Above the "stately treasure dome" decreed by the ancestors, the sky didn't just hang—it pulsed.

The sacred river Styx roared beneath them, carving through caverns so vast they felt like the throat of a god, emptying eventually into the deceptive peace of the sunlit sea. But no one was looking at the water. They were looking at the Demon Insects.

They descended in undulating clouds, their iridescent wings humming a discordant note that set teeth on edge. They didn't just fly; they frenzied, drawn to the dome’s energy like sharks to an open wound.

The Vanguard of the Storm

Hei adjusted his mask, his dark eyes tracking the swarm. Beside him, the group was a patchwork of worlds and wills:

  • Yusuke Urameshi: He was already cracking his knuckles, a faint blue spark of Spirit Reflection energy dancing between his fingers. He looked bored, which usually meant he was about to do something reckless.
  • Peter Pevensie: The High King of Narnia stood with a hand on the hilt of Rhindon. His eyes were fixed on the "incense-bearing trees" that were currently being stripped of their bark by the chittering swarm.
  • Haru Glory: The Rave Master held the Ten Powers sword firmly. The light from the blade flickered rhythmically, sensing the shift in the world’s balance.
  • Tenchi Masaki: He looked the most uneasy, his innate connection to the cosmos vibrating in sync with the distortion ahead.

"Is this a sign of things to come," Hei thought, his voice a cold whisper in his own mind, "or is the danger already here?" He looked at the chaos and felt a familiar, hollow indifference. Either way, what do I care?

The Breaking Point

"We’re approaching the Annihilation Storm," Musica shouted over the rising gale. He pointed his Silver Bond toward the horizon, where the sky turned the color of a fresh bruise. "We’re getting close to Symphonia now!"

The wind kicked up, carrying the scent of the Demon Insects—a cloying, sweet rot. The towers of Xanadu, once symbols of an eternal empire, now looked like jagged teeth waiting to be shattered.

"If that storm hits the dome while the insects are feeding on the ley lines," Tenchi warned, his voice straining against the wind, "the feedback loop will vaporize the entire coast."

Yusuke let out a sharp, jagged laugh. "Then I guess we better stop being a welcoming committee and start being a cleanup crew. Haru, you take the sky. Peter, keep the ground clear. Hei... do whatever it is you do in the shadows."

Hei didn't respond. He simply vanished into the swirl of incense smoke and demon wings, a black spark in a world about to ignite. The "measureless" caverns were about to be measured by the depth of their struggle
