Order of the Shadow Bear: Nightmare in the Phantom Abyss
The damp chill of the Meridian forest at night did little to cool the tense energy pulsing through the clearing. Under the backdrop of starry skies and the looming shadow of the abyss castle, an improbable alliance stood assembled.
Will Vandom clutched the glowing Heart of Kandrakar, its faint pink light catching the determined edges of her face. Beside her, Queen Elyion looked on with grave concern, listening intently to the breathless report Raythor had brought from deep within Phobos’s old strongholds.
“Wait... they’re on our side?” Will asked, her voice hushed as she glanced toward the shadowy treeline. “What about Frost and Tracker? I thought we couldn't risk approaching them.”
“We couldn't,” Raythor admitted, his eyes scanning the perimeter. “Not until now. But the Abyss of Shadows plan collapsed faster than expected. Cedric found out about the secret plot to save your brother, Prince Phobos.”
Elyion gasped softly. “Cedric knows?”
“He does,” Raythor confirmed grimly. “Which means my cover is completely blown after saving him tomorrow. We have no time left.”
Before Elyion could process the sudden shift in allegiance, a heavy, ancient presence stepped forward from the treeline. Raizen, towering and unyielding, looked down at Yusuke Urameshi, Tenchi Masaki, and Prince Phobos himself.
“There’s more that you need to know about the situation here in the Demon World that I haven’t told you about yet,” Raizen growled, his voice deep enough to vibrate through the earth beneath their feet.
Yusuke crossed his arms, his classic cocky grin fading into serious attention. “I’m all ears, old man. Out with it.”
Raizen turned his gaze toward Phobos. “The relationships here are complex. In the past, I fought with Kagato and Yomi merely for the sake of fighting... but things have changed.” He paused, letting the weight of his words settle over the group. “You can get along with Kagato. He’s an isolationist who likes the Demon World just as it is. But beware of Yomi.”
“Yomi?” Kurama interjected smoothly, his rose whip held loosely at his side. “He’s always been calculating.”
“Worse than that,” Raizen warned. “He speaks of unification, but it’s a front for moving his army. If he isn’t stopped, he won't just settle for Demon World—he’ll take over Meridian and Kandrakar as well.”
Tenchi, drawing on the wisdom of Yosho standing silently at his shoulder, stepped up. “Then we’re dealing with a multi-realm war if Yomi makes his move while Cedric disrupts Meridian.”
“Precisely,” Raizen agreed. “Which brings us to the wild card in all of this.”
Will stepped closer, the Heart pulse quickening in her palm. “What wild card?”
“The Order of the Bear,” Yosho spoke up, his voice calm and ancient. “They are a secretive, ancient organization lurking in these lands. They believe King Arthur will one day return to bring Meridian out of the darkness and revive Camelot. If Yomi moves, the Order will rise to meet him—and we need to make sure we're standing on the right side of that clash when the Phantom Abyss swallows the light.”
Will exchanged a grim look with Yusuke and Elyion. The battle lines were being drawn across dimensions, and tomorrow's rescue mission for Phobos was only the opening strike
