Valley of the Lost: Dark Genesis – Reign of the Beast Charmer
Darkness is not merely the absence of light; it is an active, hungry entity. It swallows all things into its endlessness, letting nothing escape its grasp. The pitch-black void is always lurking in the background, a silent predator waiting at the edges of reality. Why do humans dread the darkness? Perhaps it isn't just the fear of the unknown—perhaps it is something deeper, an ancient, instinctual terror of what awaits them within the shadows.
"Why have you summoned me this night, Prince Phobos?" Diaz from Shadow Skill asked, her sharp voice breaking the eerie silence of the chamber. She stood with her arms crossed, eyeing the ruler of Meridian with cool detachment.
Prince Phobos turned from his towering window, his long hair catching the faint, sickly glow of the magical fires lighting the room. "This assignment is perfect for a non-human, Diaz," he murmured, a cold smile spreading across his face. "There is only one lesson I can teach mortals, Scarface."
"And who shall I teach?" she countered, her hand resting near her blade.
Before Phobos could reply, his gaze shifted beyond her, toward the shimmering scrying glass set in the center of the room. The image flickered to life, showing a vast, desolate landscape shrouded in mist.
"They're just staring," Phobos whispered, stepping closer to the glass. "What do they want?"
Within the reflection, thousands of miles away, Leif—the young King of Deltora—stood alongside his companions at the threshold of a cavernous wasteland.
"Welcome to the Valley of the Lost," a echoing, disembodied voice hissed from the fog, swirling around Leif and the heroes. A tall, shadowy figure materialized before them, eyes glowing like burning coals. "You're here to steal my gem, aren't you? We'll play a game. If you win, the diamond is yours. All you have to do is guess my real name."
Leif gripped the hilt of his sword, his heart pounding as the Guardian of the Valley of the Lost loomed over them, its dark magic pressing down like a suffocating weight.
Back in Meridian, the image on the scrying glass shifted abruptly, warping from the fog of Deltora to the cobbled, rain-slicked streets outside the royal palace. A towering, cloaked figure slipped through the side gates, disappearing into the night.
"It's the guard Cedric," Phobos said, his tone darkening as he turned to Will Vandom and Queen Elyon, his sister. "He left the castle... so he's the spy we're seeking."
Will stepped forward, the Heart of Kandrakar pulsing faintly against her chest, her eyes wide with concern. Elyon looked toward her brother, torn between suspicion and terror.
"The true heir has great power, Cedric," Phobos continued softly, his eyes glinting with ruthless ambition as he looked at Elyon. "Will send beasts in human form to charm her, and she will be drawn to them. The dark always knows how to pull the light into its grasp."
