W.I.T.C.H. THE MOVIE 1998:Phobos’s Ambition & The Curse of Bosion Beak
The cold stone of the Meridian throne room echoed with tension. Elyon stood with her arms crossed, staring down her brother Phobos, whose shadowy magic flickered dangerously around his sleeves.
"What do you mean, you want to release more prisoners?!" Elyon demanded, her voice ringing off the high walls. "Narissa is stronger than ever! Next time the witch attacks, we’ll need help safeguarding Meridian, not opening cell doors!"
"I require bodyguards that pack more mystic might," Phobos sneered smoothly, looking past his sister to Will Vandom, who had her hand resting protectively on the Heart of Kandrakar. "Someone had to do something. Your plan wasn't working, so I had to find a better one. None of you have what it takes to achieve victory at any cost."
"Your 'victory' usually comes with a body count, Phobos," Will snapped, her eyes flashing with lightning.
Standing beside them, an unlikely alliance held their ground: Leif, the hardened King of Deltora; Spyro, small but breathing low sparks of fire from his nostrils; and Hunter Steele, the Spider Rider, adjusting his battle gear as his massive arachnid companion, Shadow, chittered in agreement.
Phobos held up a pale hand to silence them, a mocking smile touching his lips. "If you wish to defeat Narissa without my freed legion, then prove your precious 'purity' can win the day. Deep within the realm lies a treasure capable of shattering her dark armor: the Diamond of the Lost."
He pointed toward a jagged dark green canopy visible beyond the city walls.
"That's the Forest of Bewilderment," Prince Phobos told his sister Elyon, Will Vandom, Leif, Spyro, and Hunter. "Legend has it that pollen from the trees in that forest upsets the sense of direction for anyone who enters. Go on then. Bring back the power you so desperately crave."
The trek through the Forest of Bewilderment was a nightmare of spiraling paths and disorienting golden fog. Trees seemed to shift when no one was looking, and the heavy, sweet-smelling pollen hung thick in the air.
"Left... no, wait, we've passed that twisted oak three times," Leif muttered, rubbing his eyes and relying heavily on the tug of the Belt of Deltora to keep his instincts sharp.
"My head is spinning," Hunter grunted, clinging to Shadow's saddle. "Shadow, do you know where we're going?" The giant spider tapped her legs in confusion.
"Leave the air tracking to me!" Spyro offered, taking off into the canopy, only to loop twice and crash land straight into a bush. "Okay, yeah, definitely can't tell up from down."
It was only through Will's elemental connection to air, blowing cleared paths through the pollen clouds, that the group finally stumbled out of the golden haze and into a stark, silent canyon.
The air here was dead silent. Bleached stone pillars rose like ribs from the earth, and at the center of the canyon sat a jagged altar.
Before anyone could step forward, a swirl of purple mist condensed over the altar, hardening into a towering, shadowy cloak with eyes that burned like dying stars.
"I am the Guardian of the Valley of the Lost," the mysterious figure echoed, its voice sounding like grinding stones. "You're here to steal my gem, aren't you?"
The Guardian raised a clawed hand, revealing a radiant, blinding crystal pulsing at the center of the altar.
"See, the gem is right here," the Guardian purred, its aura flaring with cold power. "If you match wits with me and win, the diamond is yours. But if you lose... you will lose your identity and forever become part of the Valley of the Lost!"
Leif stepped forward, drawing his sword, while Spyro flared his wings and Hunter primed his lance. Will felt the Heart of Kandrakar warm against her chest. Narissa was out there, getting stronger by the hour—and Phobos was waiting to see them fail.
They couldn't afford to lose themselves here. The game was about to begin.
