Veil of Darkness: The Dreaming Spring Project Knights of Kandrakar Album Outro
The air in Babylon City didn't just smell like ozone; it smelled like data, ancient and synthetic, a city constructed from memory and reflection on the highest floors of the Infinity Fortress.
Will Vandom, clad in her green Keeper suit, shivered, but it wasn't from the cold. The Heart of Kandrakar pulsed erratically at her chest. It was the original Heart, or part of it, but two others had been fragmented—one stolen by Phobos’s old sympathizers, another lost to the folds between worlds. Will felt their absence like a phantom limb.
Beside her, her siblings argued. It was a recent discovery—a cosmic joke, Phobos called it—that the dark Prince of Meridian, the benevolent Queen Elyion, and Will Vandom, the Guardian of Earth, were kin. Elyion, graceful even in her traveler’s cloak, was trying to convince Phobos to stop complaining about the vulgarity of the Lower Town.
“Our kingdom is dying, brother,” Elyion stated, her voice calm but steel-tipped. “Meridian’s life force is leaking toward Kandrakar, and Kandrakar is fraying without the Hearts. We need them back.”
“And you think traversing this dimensional slum with a spirit detective, a noisy reptile, and that man,” Phobos gestured with a elegant, disgusted flourish toward a figure lounging against a nearby mirror panel, “is the height of royal protocol?”
The figure, Kyoji Kagami, smiled. His handsome face was reflected a hundred times in the fractured mirror, a multitude of silent Observers. “Protocol is boring, my Prince. I only care about the result. Babylon City is an artifact, a mirror of the true universe. My universe.” He pushed off the panel, his signature Diamond Dust mirror fragments swirling imperceptibly around him. “I will open the gate. My payment remains unchanged.”
Kagami didn't explain what his payment was. He simply raised a hand, and the mirror began to shimmer, the reflections blurring into a chaotic vortex.
“Alright, look,” Yusuke Urameshi, leaning against a large gargoyle, snapped. He was in his green school uniform, hands shoved in his pockets. “Kagami opens the door, we get the things, we punch anybody who tries to stop us. This whole royal-family-drama thing is getting on my nerves. Let’s move.”
“Heh.” A plume of smoke erupted from the side. Spyro the dragon, looking small but surprisingly fierce, stepped forward. “I’m with the Spirit Detective. This place smells like fake treasure. I need to feel actual gold or breath real fire.”
Kagami’s voice cut through the air, cool and distant. “The mirror gate requires a sacrifice of focus. Meridian is unstable.”
He didn't wait for assent. With a surge of metaphysical energy, Kagami activated the mirror. The world folded.
They didn't just walk into Meridian; they collapsed into it.
The familiar purple-skied land was ravaged. Dark crystalline structures erupted from the ground, absorbing the light. Elyion gasped, her face pale. She felt her power being sucked away by the land itself. Phobos grabbed her arm, his expression unusually grim.
“They are here,” a jagged voice rasped from the darkness.
Dozens of masked figures, Phobos’s old elite guards, rose from the shadows, flanking three larger beings who each held a shard of the missing mystic hearts. The fragments were radiating a sickly, corrupting light.
“It seems your people still prefer me, sister,” Phobos sneered, though his grip on her hand tightened.
“They aren't my people,” Will said, stepping forward. The original Heart of Kandrakar in her hand began to glow, pushing back the dark energy of the corrupt shards. “Let's go, guys!”
Will unleashed a surge of pure elemental energy, blasting the front line of guards with lightning. Spyro roared, creating a barrier of fire that blocked a rush of archers.
Yusuke went straightforward. "Get out of my way!" he yelled, charging at the largest corrupted beast. He dodged a sweeping claw, his index finger extending. "SPIRIT GUN!" A blue blast of spiritual energy obliterated the monster's left side.
Phobos, surprisingly, fought in sync with Elyion. As she used her light magic to blind and confuse the attackers, he commanded the corrupted vegetation of Meridian to rise up and ensnare them.
But the key was Kagami. He didn't fight; he shifted.
When a commander charged at Will with a cursed blade, Kagami was suddenly in front of him. But it was only a reflection. The commander’s blade passed through, shattering the image into Diamond Dust that rushed into the commander’s eyes and throat, choking him. Kagami appeared ten feet away, laughing softly.
“You exist too slowly,” Kagami murmured, his mirrors reflecting the battlefield from every angle, disorienting the enemies and allowing the group to anticipate attacks.
Seeing an opening created by Kagami’s illusions, Yusuke leaped towards the enemy leader holding the largest shard. The leader tried to retreat, but the shadows themselves—manipulated by Phobos—rose up to hold him.
Will ran forward, combining her elemental power with Elyion’s light. They aimed a combined blast not at the leader, but at the corrupt shard he held.
The blast hit. The original Heart pulsed in resonance.
The corrupt shard shattered. The corrupted energy dispersed with a mournful shriek, revealing the two mystic heart shards. Will lunged, her own hand reaching into the light.
Resonance.
The shards didn't just combine; they fused. Will stood back as a blinding white light erupted from her palms. When the light faded, the Three Mystic Hearts were whole, held in a triangular pattern in a single, pulsing jewel.
The land of Meridian stopped trembling. The dark crystals receded. The surviving guards dropped their weapons and fled into the night.
Will gasped for breath, looking down at the unified jewel. “We did it.”
Elyion stepped next to her, placing a hand over the jewel. She looked towards the horizon. In the distance, a gate, glowing with a soft, stable light, opened.
It was the pathway to Kandrakar.
“It is done,” Kagami’s voice said, seemingly from every reflection in the forest. His numerous images consolidated into one single figure near the gate. “Your kingdom is restored, Queen Elyion. And I have observed the nature of a unified universe. My payment is complete.”
With a final smirk at Phobos, Kyoji Kagami vanished into the light of the new Meridian.
Yusuke stretched, shoving his hands back into his pockets. “Well, that was almost interesting. You royals owe me a dinner.”
“And me some gems!” Spyro added.
Phobos sniffed, adjusting his cuffs, though he didn't protest.
Will, Elyion, and Phobos looked at each other—Guardian, Queen, and Prince—tied together by blood and a world they had just saved. Will stepped forward, the unified Hearts of Kandrakar guiding them home. https://audiomack.com/dj-new-new-dre/album/knights-of-kandrakar
