Black Howling: Twilight of the Fallen Dragon
The sky over Meridian did not bleed purple; it tore open in jagged, obsidian gashes. The "Black Howling"—once feared as an omen of destruction—was actually the desperate, resonant cry of the world's ancient magic trying to hold the collapsing Veil together.
Inside the royal palace, Prince Phobos stood side-by-side with the Guardians of the Veil. His hands glowed with raw, green energy, channeling his own lifeforce directly into the cracks of the sky to reinforce the fading barrier. He looked down at Wil, Masaki, Kyogi, and Irma, his usual cold arrogance replaced by a grim, fierce determination.
"I fear a dark and difficult time is coming," Phobos shouted over the roaring wind, his long hair whipping around his face. "Many people will need your help. You have been chosen as the Guardians of the Veil, but we cannot do this divided. My sister Elyion is out there, and she is the ultimate prize."
Wil braced herself against the magical updraft. "Interesting... I heard the rightful heir to the throne was somewhere on Earth. What does the enemy tracking her look like?"
"That's Lord Cedric," Phobos spat, his voice dripping with venom. "But he is not always in his human form. He has betrayed the crown, aligning himself with a gluttonous, magic-leaching tyrant from another realm."
Right on cue, the ground beneath the courtyard shattered.
Bursting through the stone was Cedric in his true, monstrous serpentine form—his massive coils crushing the ancient pillars. Riding atop his horned head was the short, orange, scepter-wielding dictator, Ripto. Ripto waved his golden staff, laughing maniacally as his Ruby Scepter pulsed with dark energy that actively tore at Phobos's defensive spells.
"The throne of Meridian belongs to those who know how to use power, Prince!" Ripto bellowed, his eyes gleaming with greed as he looked at the rich magical leylines of the kingdom. "With Cedric's knowledge of the Veil and my gems, we'll strip this world bare!"
"You have begun an adventure that will require all your talent and power just to survive," a heavy, resonant voice echoed from the palace gates.
Spyro the Dragon stepped into the courtyard, his scales shimmering with heat, flanking the mysterious Hunter of Avalon. Spyro looked at the monstrous snake, then back to the exhausted Prince who was still pouring everything he had into protecting the realm.
"So, you're the one who's laid his life on the line to raise Prince Phobos's younger sister, Queen Elyion," Spyro said, a look of newfound respect in his eyes as he took his position next to Irma and Wil. He bared his fangs, sparking a bright yellow flame in his throat. "Good thing you've got backup. Let's send these pests packing."
