The Dragon of City Park: Record of the Digidestined Demon War
The damp air of the city park clung to them like a heavy shroud, the neon glow of a shifting sky painting the concrete in shades of bruised purple and crimson.
"You are our DigiDestined..."
The mysterious voice echoed from nowhere, vibrating deep within their chest cavities. It felt ancient, laced with static, yet terrifyingly clear.
"You have been chosen for great things, but don't be frightened."
Yusuke Urameshi scoffed, shoving his hands into his pockets and spitting to the side. "Frightened? Lady, or whatever you are, I deal with Spirit World creeps for breakfast. You’re going to have to try harder than a disembodied loudspeaker."
Beside him, Sakura Avalon clutched her star-capped sealing wand tight against her chest. Her eyes darted around the shadowed trees of the park, sensing an overwhelming, chaotic magical pressure that didn't belong to any Clow Card she had ever faced. Takuya Kanbara adjusted his goggles, his fingers twitching near his D-Tector, while Kyogi Kagimi remained stoic, his piercing gaze tracking the ripples of energy tearing through the atmospheric fabric. Aloof and draped in royal shadow, Prince Phobos simply crossed his arms, an amused, disdainful smirk playing on his lips.
"So, which world do we save?" Yusuke muttered, his tone dropping into a grim, uncharacteristic seriousness. He looked at the ragtag group, then up at the darkening horizon where massive, draconic silhouettes blocked out the stars. "We can't ask the DigiDestined for help. We're already on opposing sides, and the Lightning Emperor can't help despite his noble offer."
Takuya frowned, looking down. "Yeah. It's a mess. Everyone's fractured."
"This is a demon war where humans should not tread," Phobos intervened, his voice dripping with aristocratic ice. "A petty sandbox squabble for mortals, yet here you are, drowning in your own fragile mortality."
Phobos's words hit a nerve. Yusuke stared into the grass, the weight of the situation pressing down on him. A demon war where humans shouldn't tread... The phrase repeated in his mind, a fact that led him down a spiral of troubling thoughts. If the boundary between worlds was completely gone, what hope did ordinary people have?
Breaking his own trance, Yusuke pulled out a blank, shimmering parchment they had recovered from a fallen digital entity. "What good is a map that doesn't show anything?" he grumbled, tapping the useless surface.
"Wait," Sakura said, her eyes lighting up as she noticed a faint, pulsing warmth radiating from the pocket of her dress. "It’s activated by the crystal!"
She pulled out a brilliant, multi-faceted crystal. The moment its light washed over the parchment, ink materialized like burning veins of blue fire.
"Look!" Takuya pointed eagerly. "The first two portals... and now there's a third one! Where is it?"
The map pulsed violently, a heavy psychic thrum radiating through the soles of their shoes. Yusuke looked over at the young cardcaptor, noticing the sudden paleness of her face and the way her wand vibrated in her hands.
"Are you sensing something, Sakura Avalon?" Yusuke asked, his energy flaring slightly in response. "Is it very strong?"
"It's... it's malicious," Sakura whispered, stepping back. "Like a hunger."
Before anyone could answer, a dark, ambient chuckle filled the air. The sorcerer Phobos floated away across the stone bridge spanning the park's central lake, his dark robes billowing behind him as he drifted toward the newly opened rift. "If you wish to survive the closing of the gates, I suggest you follow," he called back lazily.
What Happened Next...
The third portal tore open directly over the center of the lake, shattering the water into a vertical vortex of dark matter and pixelated static.
