Dragon Year 1999: Five Astral Spirits of the Endless Metropolis
Oh, five spirits that control this world, please hear my prayers. The light that shines in the darkness, the wind that carries us to the heavens, and the fire that blows courage into our hearts... However, the people have forgotten this. Is destiny something that has been predetermined? If that is true, what kind of guide is it? It is the beginning of all action..."
The ancient words hung in the air, echoing like a forgotten hymn before dissolving into the heavy, vibrating silence of the dragon temple. Ignitus, the Elder Dragon, lowered his massive, scaled head, his glowing yellow eyes reflecting the urgent fire of the brazier between them.
"What's happening? It's most peculiar," Ignitus said, his deep voice rumbling through the stone floor beneath their feet. He turned his heavy gaze toward Spyro, Prince Phobos, Arc the Lad, and Kyogi Kagami. "Listen to me—not much time is left."
Spyro stepped forward, his purple scales glistening under the firelight, his wings tense. "Ignitus, what is it? What's down there?"
"The Underground Infinite City," Ignitus replied gravely. "There are endless caverns stretching into the dark down there, places where space and time fold in on themselves."
Prince Phobos crossed his arms, a cold, calculating smirk playing on his lips, though a flicker of genuine concern shadowed his eyes. Beside him, Kyogi Kagami remained stoic, his hand resting light but ready on the hilt of his blade.
"Caleb told us about this place," Phobos murmured, glancing toward Kyogi. "Before the rebel leader left on his own errand, he warned Kyogi and me that the foundation of those caverns was shifting."
"He was right to warn you," Ignitus said, nodding solemnly. "From time immemorial, it was the Council's sacred task to protect the Infinite Dimensions. We held the balance. We guarded the gateways that kept reality from collapsing into chaos. But thirteen years ago..."
The dragon paused, a dark shadow passing over his ancient face.
"...the Brain Trust came to power," Ignitus continued. "The threat they posed was so grave, so absolute in its cruelty, that we had no choice. We had to seal off the Infinite Dimensions from all other worlds to prevent the spread of their evil. We locked the doors and threw away the key, condemning those endless caverns to silence."
Arc the Lad adjusted his gear, his expression darkening as he looked toward the dark abyss of the temple's lower descent. "And now? Why is the seal weakening?"
Ignitus stood to his full height, his massive wings unfurling just enough to block out the surrounding torchlight, casting them all in dramatic silhouette.
"Because the seal was never meant to last forever," Ignitus declared, his eyes blazing with a mix of dread and fierce determination. "The locks are shattering, my friends. A new day is about to dawn—and whether it brings light or total annihilation depends on what we do next."
