Advent of The Lightning Emperor - Autumn Plains
The dim torchlight of the limitless fortress cast long, trembling shadows against the damp stone walls. Ban, his violet sunglasses reflecting the faint glow, leaned back against a crumbling pillar and looked over at his partner.
"Looking at you now, Genji, I can't help but think of the first time I saw you look so out of control," Ban muttered, his voice dropping to a low, serious register. "When your friends were taken down by the monsters from the mid-floors... you were the one they were after from the beginning. We never knew why, but that's when you awoke."
Genji stared at his hands, sparks of azure electricity crackling faintly across his knuckles. The memory was a heavy weight.
"It was the advent of the lightning emperor," Gnasty Gnorc rumbled from the shadows, his massive, spiked club resting heavily on his shoulder. The towering green creature grunted, a rare moment of somber reflection crossing his usually brash features.
Before Genji could answer, the heavy iron doors at the end of the corridor groaned open. Masaki Kurusu entered, his eyes scanning a deactivated console on the wall. He tapped a glass panel with his knuckles, his expression tightening.
"This is odd," Masaki noted, his voice carrying the calm precision of an operative. "The blaster's cutoff switch has been bypassed."
"You saw flashes of light, that's all. Base your deductions on facts, not assumptions," a sharp, cultured voice echoed through the passage. Sherlock Holmes stepped into the dimly lit hall of the limitless fortress, his long coat sweeping behind him as his eyes darted from the scorched stonework to the bypassed wiring. He adjusted his collar, completely unbothered by the bizarre array of companions around him.
"Ripto has caused enough damage," Kyoji Kagami added, stepping out from the fog, his long silver hair catching the ambient magical light. His sharp gaze peered toward the upper levels of the fortress. "I was a champion, you know. I'll take him down myself."
"Gaul! We've finally made Avalon ours!"
Ripto's high-pitched, manic cackle echoed from the deep, distant chambers of the fortress, followed by the heavy, thudding footsteps of the ape king, Gaul. The villainous laughter reverberated through the stones, cutting the tension in the hall like a knife.
Genji stood up, the lightning around his fists bursting into a brilliant, blinding storm that illuminated the ancient hall. "They won't keep it for long."
