Give up the Ghost: Angel of the Cursed Fate

The rain in Shinjuku didn’t just fall; it slicked the neon-lit asphalt like oil, reflecting the fractured glow of a thousand advertisements. High above the streets, on the skeletal iron framework of a half-constructed skyscraper, six figures stood caught in a deadlock of clashing wills and ancient magic.

At the center of the concrete platform stood Yami Yugi, the Millennium Puzzle glowing with an intense, golden luminescence that pierced the fog. Opposite him, Seto Kaiba stood unyielding, his long white trench coat whipping wildly in the wind. A holographic duel disk hummed on Kaiba's arm, projecting the terrifying, translucent form of the Blue-Eyes White Dragon into the storm.

"You're out of options, Yugi!" Kaiba’s voice cut through the thunder. "No matter what tricks you pull from that deck, the power of my dragons will crush your illusions!"

"There are no tricks here, Kaiba," Yugi replied calmly, his eyes sharp and focused. "Only the bonds that tie us to the spirits of the past. And right now, we aren't the only ones trapped by fate."

To the side, leaning against a stack of rusted steel beams, Cloud Strife adjusted his grip on the Buster Sword. He looked completely unfazed by the colossal dragon towering above them, his glowing Mako eyes fixed on two strangers who had intercepted them on their way to the high-stakes meeting.

"Get Backers, huh?" Cloud muttered, his voice low and raspy. "You picked a bad night to accept a job."

Ban Mido smirked, adjusting his tinted blue sunglasses despite the dark, rainy night. He flicked a cigarette butt into the abyss below. "Hey, look, blondie. We got a contract to retrieve an ancient artifact—that gold puzzle around the kid's neck. The 'Honky Tonk' has tab bills to pay, and we don't walk away empty-handed."

Beside Ban, Genji Amino—the legendary Lightning Lord of the Limitless Fortress—stepped forward. Sparks of blue static began to dance across his shoulders, his gentle demeanor giving way to the formidable aura of a protector. "We don't want any unnecessary trouble, but Ban's right. We have a job to finish."

Before anyone could make a move, a terrifying presence manifested from the shadows of the crane above. Down dropped Kagami Tokimesu, the master of the Mirror Effect. He landed silently, a chilling, polite smile plastered on his face. He adjusted his glasses, his hands tucked neatly behind his back.

"A beautiful gathering of tragic souls," Kagami purred, his eyes glinting with a dangerous brilliance. "A pharaoh without a throne, a billionaire obsessed with the past, a mercenary carrying the weight of a shattered world... and my dear friends from the Limitless Fortress. What a perfect canvas for a reflection."

Kagami waved his hand, and suddenly, dozens of shimmering, razor-sharp mirror shards materialized in the air around the platform, trapping everyone in a massive, crystalline cage. The mirrors didn't just reflect their faces; they reflected their deepest regrets, their fears, and their hidden strengths.

"What is this nonsense?!" Kaiba snarled, his Blue-Eyes White Dragon roaring as it slashed its claws against the mirror barrier, only for the attack to shatter against an invisible wall and redirect the shockwave right back at them.

"Careful, rich boy," Ban warned, his eyes narrowing as he stepped in front of Genji. "Kagami’s mirrors don't just reflect light. They reflect power. You attack him directly, and you're just attacking yourself."

"Then we change the nature of the fight," Yugi said. He raised his hand, channeling the ancient magic of the Millennium Puzzle. The golden light flared, enveloping the platform and stabilizing the volatile energy vibrating off Kagami’s mirrors. "You can hope the face of evil will change itself, but it won't unless you force it to change!"

The words resonated through the stormy night, striking a chord in Cloud. The mercenary took a deep breath, the heavy Buster Sword suddenly feeling lighter in his hands. "He's right. No more talking."

With a sudden burst of speed, Cloud dashed forward. Instead of striking Kagami directly, he slammed the flat of the Buster Sword into the concrete ground, shattering the foundation beneath Kagami’s main mirror array.

Simultaneously, Genji tapped into the storm above. "Ban! Now!"

"You got it!" Ban shouted. His eyes flared with a predatory light. "You’ve just had a nightmare."

Before Kagami could summon a mirror to deflect the oncoming assault, Ban unleashed his Jagan (Evil Eye). For a crucial fraction of a second, Kagami was trapped in a flawless illusion, seeing his mirrors successfully shatter his opponents, leaving him completely vulnerable in reality.

In that split second of distraction, Genji became a streak of pure lightning. He bypassed the mirror shards entirely, moving faster than the eye could follow, and discharged a massive current of electricity directly into the framework supporting Kagami's illusions. The mirrors shattered into harmless dust.

As Kagami stumbled back, his illusion broken and his glasses slightly askew, Kaiba didn't hesitate. "Now, Blue-Eyes! Burst Stream of Destruction!"

A blinding torrent of white energy erupted from the dragon's maw, blasting into the sky and clearing the storm clouds, leaving Kagami completely disarmed and forced to retreat back into the shadows of the city.

The silence that followed was heavy, punctuated only by the hum of Kaiba's duel disk shutting down. Cloud sheathed the Buster Sword on his back, looking over at Ban and Genji, who were catching their breath.

Yugi stepped forward, holding the Millennium Puzzle securely. He looked at Ban with a knowing smile. "It seems your contract just became impossible to fulfill."

Ban sighed, running a hand through his unruly hair and looking at Genji, who just gave a helpless, apologetic shrug. "Yeah, yeah. Trust me, kid, I don't get paid enough to fight ancient Egyptian magic and guys with giant swords anyway. Let's call it a night."

Turning on their heels, the Get Backers vanished into the Shinjuku rain, leaving the pharaoh, the rival, and the mercenary standing under a suddenly clear, starlit sky.
