Kingdom of Babylon: Battle for the Enchanted Heart
The comet cut a brilliant, bleeding scar across the starlight, illuminating the twisted canopy of the sleeping forest in pale blue light. Beneath its glow, the ancient woods felt heavy, choked by an unnatural stillness that crept up from the moss-covered roots.
Masaki Karsu leaned against a gnarled trunk, his breath ragged as he stared into the dark. He turned his gaze toward Xigbar, who was casually tossing one of his arrowguns into the air, and Akira Udo, the towering "King of Beasts," who stood like an immovable shadow.
"Why aren't you asleep, boy?" Xigbar asked, his single eye gleaming with familiar, mocking amusement. "That fool Sora cast a spell to put everyone in the sleeping forest into a deep slumber. You’ve got some strong willpower to be standing right now."
Masaki gripped his chest, his mind racing back to the narrow escape moments prior. "Those monsters that attacked me... what are they?" he demanded, his voice trembling but urgent.
Before Xigbar could answer, the shadows parted. Kyogi Kagimi stepped into the clearing, his expression unreadable as he surveyed the gathered warriors.
"Who would have thought there'd still be this many of us left," Kyogi said inquisitively, crossing his arms.
"What do you mean 'a shame'?" Ban Mido shouted, stepping forward. Frustration boiled over inside him. He slammed his hand against a massive nearby tree, his fingers digging deep into the bark as he unleashed his devastating 200-kilogram force grip. The wood groaned and splintered instantly under the sheer pressure of his wrath. "Speak plainly!"
Kyogi didn't flinch at the display of power. "I mean that it seems to be going according to our enemy's plan, Mido. We are being corralled."
"Fine," Akira Udo grunted, his deep voice vibrating through the hollow. He stepped into the center of the clearing, the dark fantasy atmosphere of the woods seeming to warp around his intimidating presence. "But this is a battle of Kings. I was invincible. Everyone around me was my enemy. All I did was bare my fangs at the world, and soon, everyone was calling me King."
He looked up at the fading streak of the comet, his eyes reflecting the cold starlight.
"If this forest wants to put us to sleep," Akira growled, "it’s going to have to try a hell of a lot harder."
