The Limitless Fortress: The Obsidian Monolith

The canopy above didn’t just block the sun; it swallowed it.
Yugi Muto pressed forward, his boots sinking into the rotting mulch of a forest floor that felt entirely lifeless. Beside him, Leif, the King of Delatora, kept his hand rested firmly on the hilt of his sword, his eyes scanning the twisted, weeping trees.
"We’re venturing into a part of the forest that even the birds don't want to fly through," Leif murmured, his voice tight. "An evil dwells here, Yugi. An old and wicked evil."
"Someone must have reported the Limitless Fortress Protocol," Yugi said, his hand automatically dropping to the Millennium Puzzle resting against his chest. It was cold to the touch. "I've never seen a place as dark as this before."
"That's why they call it the Dark," a smooth, cutting voice echoed from the shadows ahead.
Kyogi Kagimi stepped into the faint, bioluminescent glow of the strange fungi lining the path. He looked entirely at home in the suffocating gloom, wearing his usual mysterious intensity like a second cloak.
"There's a guardian there," Kagimi continued, his eyes locking onto Yugi, then Leif. "Anyone who has tried to fight him has never been seen again. And right now, Seto Kaiba is trapped at the center of it. The only way Kaiba can escape is by winning the game."
"A game?" Yugi’s eyes narrowed. "What kind of game?"
Before Kagimi could answer, the underbrush crashed open. Joey Wheeler burst through, breathing heavily, his deck case clamped tight to his belt. He looked up at the towering, impossible spires of a fortress made of black obsidian rising in the distance, cutting into the sky like jagged teeth.
"There's no way they can beat Kagimi," Joey panted, pointing a trembling but defiant finger at the mysterious duelist. "He's not from here, Yugi! He came down from the mystery-shrouded demon world above us—Babylon City!"
Kagimi let out a low, mocking chuckle that seemed to vibrate through the very roots of the dead trees. He turned his gaze toward Joey, a smirk playing on his lips.
"Now I get it," Kagimi said softly, the malice in his voice dripping like venom. "You're from the outside world. So you are not used to all this darkness."
"I don't care where you're from, or what kind of world Babylon City is," Yugi said, his voice dropping an octave as a golden eye flared to life on his forehead. The spirit of the Millennium Puzzle stirred, stepping forward to take the reins. Yami Yugi’s eyes flashed with fierce determination. "If Kaiba’s life is on the line, we’re going into that fortress. And no guardian—no matter how wicked—is going to stop us."
