VALLEY OF STEEL: Echoes of the Dark Cloud
The desert wind howled through the skeletal remains of the ruined steel skyscrapers, kicking up dust that coated the boots of the gathered warriors. High above, a brilliant blanket of stars illuminated the wasteland, but the cosmic beauty was entirely eclipsed by the tension on the ground.
Kyoji Kagami stepped forward, his eyes gleaming with their usual calculating, mirror-like intensity. He adjusted his glasses, looking over the mismatched assembly of newcomers and constants.
"So, tell me," Kagami’s voice cut through the whistling wind, smooth but laced with a subtle venom. "Which side do you intend to take? You haven't made your position clear either."
Genji stood at the center, his spiked hair casting a shadow over his face, his glowing, biomechanical arm crackling with dark, unearthly blue electricity. He didn't even look up at Kagami. A smirk played on his lips.
"I'll take whatever side I like best," Genji muttered, his voice gravelly and indifferent. "As always."
Kagami let out a soft, sharp chuckle. "Perhaps I should say that sounds just like you." His expression quickly hardened as he turned his gaze toward the massive, ominous storm front churning in the distance. "Even as we speak, a dark cloud is hanging over the Limitless Fortress."
He was looking directly at the rest of the circle. Xemmnas, shrouded in his dark, sweeping coat, stood like a statue of pure malice, a crimson aura faintly bleeding from his silhouette. Beside him, Masaki Kurusu remained impossibly calm, his trench coat billowing slightly in the draft. Further down, Ash Ketchum tightened the strap of his backpack, his Pikachu baring its teeth while Charizard let out a low, rumbling growl of warning from its throat.
They didn't have anything to say. The silence among them was deafening, a mutual understanding that words were entirely useless now. The looming threat of the Dark Cloud was a reality they could all feel pressing down on their chests.
Genji raised his glowing hand, the blue energy flaring violently against the backdrop of the ruined world. He stared into the pulsing light of his own power, his eyes narrowing.
"But my shadow..." Genji whispered, his tone dropping into something raw and unsettling. "It wanted to destroy me. I've talked to myself a lot since falling into darkness."
Nobody moved. The battlefield was set, the lines were drawn in the desert sand, and as the echoes of the Dark Cloud rumbled from the Limitless Fortress, the time for talking was officially over.
