The Silent Forest and the King of the Underworld: Flow of the Eternal Tide
The canopy overhead was a dense, suffocating ceiling of black leaves, blocking out all but the eerie, golden glow of the floating clocks drifting through the air like displaced spirits. The gears within them ticked backward, an unsettling reminder that time did not function normally within this realm.
Masaki rested his hand near his collar, his sharp eyes cutting through the gloom. "I’ve never seen a place as dark as this before," he murmured, his voice low so it wouldn't carry into the abyss of the trees. "That's why they call it the Dark, and an evil dwells here—an old and wicked evil. There's a guardian there, and anyone who has tried to fight him has never been seen again."
Kagimi stood beside him, the golden rings of his earrings catching the faint luminescence of a passing clock dial. He turned his gaze toward the blonde man leaning against a ruined trunk.
"So, what are you doing here all alone?" Kagimi asked. "Shouldn't you be guiding the Lightning Emperor, Genji?"
Masaki let out a weary breath. "He decided to follow his own path from here on out."
"How unusual," Yusuke Urameshi chimed in, stepping forward into the faint light. He wore his familiar green uniform, his arms crossed over his chest with an easy, confident posture that defied the oppressive atmosphere. "You usually insist everything depends on fate."
Yusuke was standing by Ash Ketchum, who looked uncharacteristically grim, his jacket smudged with the soot of the forest, though Pikachu remained a vigilant weight on his shoulder. Beside them, Kuruma—carrying the heavy aura of his own past battles—watched the shadows closely.
Further back, Leif adjusted the strap of his sword, his eyes fixed on the massive, golden-scaled dragon circling silently above the tree line under the crescent moon. Even Guzma, usually the first to loudmouth his way through a tense situation, kept his arms braced on his hips, his skull medallion hanging still against his chest as he stared into the fog. The usual rules of their respective worlds didn't apply here.
Kagimi looked over at Kuruma and Ash Ketchum, his expression tightening as a sudden chill swept through the brush. The ticking of the floating clocks grew louder, a synchronized rhythm that felt like a countdown.
"So, what are you going to do?" Kagimi asked, his voice cutting through the unnatural silence. "This could turn into a war, you know."
Ash gripped the brim of his cap, pulling it down determinedly. "We didn't come this far to turn back just because the dark got a little louder."
Yusuke smirked, a spark of spirit energy briefly flickering at the tip of his finger. "A war against an ancient evil guardian? Sounds like exactly my kind of party. Let's see what this forest is hiding."
