The Great Eclipse: Legend of the Bewildered Forest and the Lost Valley
The misty air of the gorge grew heavier, the scent of the nearby Forest of Bewilderment carrying a sweet, cloying danger.
Leif reached instinctively for his waist. His fingers brushed against the broad, heavy medallions of the Belt of Deltora. The Topaz, the Ruby, the Opal—each gem embedded in the steel gave off a faint, reassuring warmth against his skin, reminding him of the long, grueling quest to free his kingdom from the Shadow Lord. This wasn't just a random path; he was the King of Deltora, and his people were counting on him to survive whatever strange world he had been pulled into.
"I want to know what is happening," Leif demanded, tightening his grip on the hilt of the legendary Sword of Deltora. "I have done what you asked of me and followed your path."
Kyogi Kagimi turned slowly, his eyes locking onto the young king.
"Yes," Kyogi replied, his voice a low, resonant rumble. "But a time will come when you have to choose your own path... and you are not ready."
Before Leif could press for answers, the mist in front of them swirled and condensed into a towering, shadowy silhouette. The air grew instantly colder, smelling of ancient stone and deep earth.
"Who is this?" Spyro growled, low sparks dancing behind his teeth as the purple dragon dropped into a defensive stance.
"I am the guardian of the Valley of the Lost," the mysterious figure hissed, its voice sounding like grinding boulders. The entity's eyes flared with a pale, ethereal light. "And I suppose you're here to steal my gem, aren't you?"
Leif felt a sudden, sharp throb from the Belt. The Diamond was pulsing, warning him of a great, deceptive danger nearby.
"We don't want your gem, pal," King muttered, stepping forward and drawing his own weapon to shield Leif and Spyro. "We’re just trying to find a way out of here."
"Then you have blundered into the worst possible place," a new voice called out.
Masaki Karsu stepped out from the treeline at the edge of the gorge, pointing a warning finger toward the dense, vibrant flora just beyond the guardian's shadow. The petals of the massive, exotic blooms pulsed with an eerie, luminescent violet hue.
"This is the Forest of Bewilderment," Masaki told the group, his face grim. "Legend has it that the pollen from those flowers disturbs the senses of humans, spiders, and dragons alike. Anyone who has entered has never come back."
Spyro took a cautious step backward, his wings twitching as he looked at the glowing plants. "Great. First a cryptic lesson, then a gem-hoarding ghost, and now brain-melting flowers. What’s the plan, Leif?"
Leif looked from Kyogi’s unreadable face to the shifting shadow of the guardian, and finally to the glowing, treacherous forest ahead. His experience in the Forests of Silence had taught him how deadly a strange woodland could be, but with the Belt of Deltora guiding him, he knew they couldn't stand still.
The moment to choose had arrived.
