Shadow Seraphim: Babel’s Dark Relics

The air inside the Limitless Fortress was thick with static electricity and the hum of a trillion rewriting lines of code. The digital sky above them pulsed an ominous crimson.
Takuya Kanbara collapsed against a jagged piece of debris, clutching his side. Every breath felt like inhaling broken glass. His D-Tector lay inches from his hand, dark and unresponsive.
"Kyogi Kagimi..." Takuya choked out, looking up at the teenager who had just materialized from the digital fog. Takuya’s eyes widened. "Wasn't it... hello again. How come your wounds are completely healed? There's not a drop of blood on him..."
Kyogi didn't answer right away. He brushed a speck of dust off his spotless sleeve, his expression completely unreadable.
"Everything seems to be going by Makubex’s calculations," a voice chimed in from the shadows. Ash Ketchum stepped forward, his Pikachu sparking defensively on his shoulder. Ash looked from Kyogi back to Takuya, his brow furrowed in deep concern. "At least so far. But how is Takuya supposed to fusion evolve if he can't even get up? And besides, the legend speaks of a shadowy figure that patrols the lake..."
"Forget the lake for a second," Takuya interrupted, coughing as he forced himself up onto one elbow. He glared at Kyogi. "The only way Kaiba can escape is by winning the game. So tell me—how we're going to do that if they reprogrammed the entire Limitless Fortress just to keep Seto Kaiba trapped there?!"
The Simulation Matrix
Deep within the core of the fortress, Seto Kaiba stood before a massive, floating holographic dueling grid. His signature white coat billowed behind him, defied by a digital wind. His blue eyes flashed with absolute fury.
The security protocols around him weren't just standard firewalls; Makubex had woven reality-warping algorithms into the very fabric of the sector. The rules of Duel Monsters, the laws of the Digital World, and the physics of the Virtual Simulation had been smashed together into a chaotic, unwinnable nightmare.
"Amateurs," Kaiba spat into the void. "You think a few lines of altered code can bind the president of KaibaCorp? If this 'game' requires my victory to open the gates, then I will tear this fortress down card by card!"
But even Kaiba could see the fluctuating data streams. The system was rigged. Every time he drew a card, the fortress shifted its architecture, countering his deck before he could even play a monster.
A Shadow by the Water
Back at the edge of the digitized lake, the water was as black as ink, reflecting the distorted code of the fortress walls.
"The shadowy figure Ash is talking about isn't an enemy," Kyogi finally spoke, his voice cool and calculated. He looked out over the dark water. "It’s a glitch in Makubex’s programming. A remnant of the original system data that refused to be rewritten."
"A glitch?" Ash asked, tilting his hat back. "Can we catch it?"
"We don't catch it, Ash. We use it," Kyogi replied, turning his gaze to Takuya. "Makubex thinks he has accounted for every variable. He healed me because my presence is required to stabilize the connection between Kaiba’s duel disk and your D-Tector. But he didn't account for the overlap in our energy signatures."
Kyogi walked over and picked up Takuya’s D-Tector, pressing it into the injured boy’s hand.
"Kaiba's fierce determination to win is generating an immense amount of raw, stubborn willpower. It's spiking the fortress's power grid. If you can tap into that energy stream, Takuya, you can bypass your physical injuries. You don't need a body that can stand—you need a spirit that refuses to bend."
The Fusion Spark
From the center of the black lake, a massive, towering silhouette began to rise. The shadowy figure patrolling the waters was cloaked in dark, swirling data fragments, but as it drew closer, the shape of a massive dragon began to form. It roared, a sound that echoed like a corrupted audio file.
"It's coming right for us!" Ash yelled, getting into a battling stance. "Pikachu, get ready!"
"No! Don't attack it!" Kyogi commanded. "Takuya, now! Channel Kaiba’s data stream! Let the fortress's own prison fuel your evolution!"
Takuya closed his eyes. He stopped focusing on the pain in his ribs and instead focused on the sheer, unyielding aura of victory vibrating through the walls from Kaiba’s sector. It was arrogant, powerful, and utterly unstoppable.
The D-Tector suddenly flared with a brilliant, blinding light.
