The Dark: Secret of the IL — Berserker Soul of the Dragon Lord

The torchlight flickered violently, casting long, skeletal shadows against the damp stone walls of the chamber. King Lief of Deltora stood before a massive, ancient map laid out on a stone table. His face was etched with a gravity that silenced the room.
Gathered around him were three individuals summoned from entirely different realms, each possessing a unique understanding of the supernatural: Yusuke Urameshi, the brash Spirit Detective; Yugi Muto, the master of games and keeper of ancient puzzles; and Kagiri from Babylon City, a man who knew all too well the terrifying depths of the unseen world.
Lief slammed his fist on the table, pointing to a vast, black void at the edge of the map.
"I've never seen a place as dark as this before," Lief said, his voice dropping to a harsh whisper. "That's why they call it the Dark. There's a guardian there that's even more evil than the Shadow Lord."
Yusuke leaned against a pillar, cracking his knuckles with a smirk that didn't quite reach his eyes. "More evil than the Shadow Lord, huh? I’ve gone toe-to-toe with Toguro and Sensui, and I've kicked around some of the nastiest demons the Demon World has to offer. What makes this guy any different?"
"Because he doesn't just want to conquer, Spirit Detective," Kagiri intervened, his voice calm but dripping with a chilling intensity. Having navigated the illusions and betrayals of the Infinity Fortress, Kagiri could sense the heavy, oppressive energy bleeding through the very mention of the place. "The Dark isn't just a location. It’s an entity. And whoever guards it feeds on the absolute absence of hope."
Yugi clutched the Millennium Puzzle hanging from his neck. He felt a sudden, violent throb emanate from the golden artifact. The Pharaoh’s spirit whispered a warning within his mind.
"The Shadow Games teach us that darkness always seeks a vacuum," Yugi said softly, his violet eyes wide with realization. "But Lief... if this place is so dangerous, why haven't you sealed it away completely? Why let it exist at all?"
Lief sighed, the weight of his crown looking heavier than ever. He looked directly at Yugi, then at Yusuke and Kagiri.
"Because the items of darkness play a vital role in keeping the balance of power in the spirit world," Lief explained, his gaze steady. "If we destroy the Dark, or the artifacts tied to it, the light becomes blinding. The spiritual ecosystem collapses. Chaos wouldn't just leak into Deltora; it would tear through the boundaries of Spirit World, the Shadow Realm, and Babylon City alike."
The Threshold of the Void
An hour later, the four of them stood at the literal edge of reality. Before them lay a chasm of absolute nothingness. It wasn’t a black landscape; it was a total absence of light, a vacuum that seemed to actively swallow the glow of Lief's Belt of Deltora.
"Well," Yusuke said, a blue spark of Spirit Energy igniting at the tip of his finger, cutting through the gloom just barely. "No sense in standing around. If this guardian is keeping the balance, we just need to make sure he knows his place. We aren't here to kill him—we're here to keep him in check."
"Be on your guard," Yugi warned, a golden aura enveloping him as the Millennium Puzzle began to glow, shifting his posture into that of the Atem, the ancient Pharaoh. "The shadows here are hungry."
Kagiri adjusted his gloves, a faint, dangerous smile playing on his lips. "Let them try to bite. They'll find some things are impossible to swallow."
As they stepped into the pitch-black abyss, the air turned ice-cold. The true battle for the balance of the spirit worlds had just begun.
