Dreams of Darkness: The Eight Kings of the Sleeping Forest
The canopy of the Sleeping Forest did not filter sunlight; it filtered memories. The leaves rustled with the faint, overlapping echoes of forgotten battles and distant laughter. This was the Woods of Dreams Past, a realm where reality bent to the strength of one’s conviction.
Standing in a small clearing, three legendary figures—Tenchi Masaki, Yusuke Urameshi, and Yugi Muto—looked toward the imposing figure before them.
Akira, the King of Behemoth, stood with his arms crossed, his presence as unyielding as a mountain.
"There are eight roads in this world," Akira said, his voice deep enough to vibrate the earth beneath their feet. "And eight kings to rule them. Although there are many formidable warriors following each road, only one can be King. But strength alone means nothing here. It is only when a warrior acquires the Regalia that they are truly recognized as a King."
Yusuke cracked his knuckles, a familiar, cocky grin spreading across his face. "So, basically, it's a giant game of king-of-the-hill, and we just need to grab the shiny trophies?"
"It is far from a game, Spirit Detective," Akira replied sternly. He turned his gaze to the trio, his eyes burning with gravity. "Your chief task will be recovering the Regalia. They possess immense, primordial power, and they play a vital role in keeping the power balance here in the Sleeping Forest. If the Regalia fall into the wrong hands, or if the roads remain leaderless for too long, the dreams of this forest will turn into a nightmare that swallows all of our worlds."
Yugi adjusted the leather strap of his deck case, his expression turning serious. The Millennium Puzzle rested against his chest, catching a stray glint of the forest's surreal light. “A balance of power...” Yugi thought, before a deeper, more resonant voice echoed from within him. “Be careful, Yugi. The energy in this forest feels like ancient magic, but unpredictable. We must proceed with caution.”
"We understand," Tenchi said, stepping forward. His hand instinctively hovered near the master key at his hip. He had faced cosmic entities and galactic emperors, but the sheer, dense weight of the Sleeping Forest felt entirely different. "If these Regalia are what keeps this world stable, we'll find them. Where do we start, Akira?"
Akira gestured toward the dense foliage behind him, where the single path they had been following suddenly fractured into eight distinct, shimmering trails. Each road radiated a different colored aura, humming with its own unique pressure. One felt heavy and brutal, like iron; another felt swift and untouchable, like the wind.Choose your path wisely," Akira warned as his form began to dissolve into the mist, returning to guard the Over Road. "The formidable warriors who walk these paths will not hand over the Regalia out of respect. They will test your resolve with everything they have."
As Akira vanished, the forest seemed to tighten around them. The shadows lengthened, and the sound of distant, echoing footsteps whispered from the eight roads.
"Well," Yusuke said, a blue spark of Spirit Energy flickering at the tip of his index finger. "I don't know about you guys, but I didn't come all this way to stare at the scenery. Let's go hunting for some Regalia."
Tenchi drew his light-blade, its brilliant energy illuminating the dark paths ahead. "Right. For the balance of the forest."
Yugi placed a hand over his deck, his eyes flashing with the sharp, confident gaze of the Pharaoh. "Let’s show them the heart of the cards—and the strength of our bond. Let's move!"
With their objectives clear and the fate of the Sleeping Forest hanging in the balance, the three heroes stepped forward, ready to face the formidable warriors of the eight roads.
