Plato’s Shadow: Epitaph of a Summer's End

Summer was almost over, and the sun was shining bright as we packed our gear. It all started with a simple mission: our squad, led by Akira from Behemoth, was assigned escort duty. We were to see that Alexander, the new leader of The Hidden Dragon Village, got back to his kingdom safely. His father, King Atem, had been the leader for many years, and ensuring a smooth transition of power was paramount to keeping the peace.
Against all odds, the journey started perfectly. We made it to the village hidden in the waterfall without a hitch. Mission accomplished—or so we thought.
"Oh no!" Akira shouted suddenly, his eyes widening as the brilliant daylight abruptly fractured, swallowed whole by an unnatural, suffocating darkness. "It's the Yao, the kings of the night! There's a gang that takes over the sleeping forest at night!"
The lush, sunlit greenery of the waterfall village vanished, replaced by the twisted, ancient trees of the Sleeping Forest under a star-choked sky. The transition was seamless and terrifying. Shadows stretched and writhed around us, whispering promises of violence.
Through the gloom, we spotted a solitary figure standing by a gnarled root, staring blankly into the abyss.
"That kid over there... who is he?" I whispered, a cold sweat breaking out on my neck. "I know he's been here all year, but I can't remember his name..."
"You won't find his name in any official records," Seto Kaiba chipped in, stepping forward as he pulled a glowing data pad from his coat. The screen illuminated his sharp features. "Look at this article. It says that they all just disappeared without a trace. And it's not just in the sleeping forest, but all over the kingdom."
Before we could process Kaiba's warning, a massive, luminescent roar shook the foundations of the woods. Bursting through the canopy, the legendary Blue-Eyes White Dragon materialized, its scales reflecting the brilliant starlight. Beside it, the dark, brooding figure of Itachi Uchiha emerged from the shadows, his Sharingan spinning silently in the dark.
"Our mission isn't over," Akira said, tightening the chains wrapped around his wrists, the heavy blades scraping against the dirt. "It's just beginning."
