Rainbow Valley: The Lunar Sword’s Lament & The Rose Morning Star
The interdimensional rift smelled like ozone and burnt rubber a scent Yusuke Urameshi was far too familiar with.
"I'm telling you, Fox-face, I didn't sign up for the 'Scenic Tour of Nowhere,'" Yusuke muttered, adjusting his green blazer.
Kurama remained unruffled, his crimson hair catching the strange, shifting light of the void. "Patience, Yusuke. This distortion isn’t a product of the Spirit World or Demon World. It’s... older."
The Unlikely Gathering
Standing nearby, a blonde youth gripped a belt studded with seven glowing gems. Leif of Deltora looked like he’d stepped out of a medieval tapestry, his eyes darting between the modern punk and the demon with the rose.
"Is this the Shadow Lord's doing?" Leif asked, his voice steady despite the madness. "I was in the Forests of Silence, and then—"
"Forget the Shadow Lord, kid," a voice boomed from above. Van Fanel (though Yusuke kept calling him 'Von') sat perched on a floating piece of debris, his cape fluttering. Behind him, the towering, bone-white frame of the Escaflowne stood dormant. "I was mid-flight over Gaea. If this is a Zaibach trick, they’ve outdone themselves."
"Trick? Man, this is a party!"
The sound of spinning wheels zipped across the floating rocks. Ikki, the 'Baby Face' of the Storm Riders, pulled a 360-flip on his Air Trecks, grinding against a jagged crystalline edge. "I don't know where the sky went, but the gravity here is sick! I'm catching literal air!"
The Threat Emerges
The banter died as the void curdled. A massive, amorphous entity—the Void Eater—ripped through the fabric of the dimension. It had no face, only a vacuum where light went to die.
Leif was the first to react. The Belt of Deltora pulsed. "The Topaz! it warns of great danger!" He unsheathed his sword, the steel singing.
Van leaped from the debris, his hand on his hilt. "Escaflowne, awaken!" The mecha groaned to life, its blood-stone heart glowing crimson as it moved with the fluid grace of a fencer.
Ikki accelerated. "Wing Road, open up!" He became a blur of blue light, creating localized tornadoes that buffeted the beast.
The Counter-Attack
The creature lashed out with tentacles of pure nothingness. Yusuke didn't blink.
"Move it, wheels!" Yusuke yelled, sliding under a massive swipe. He braced his wrist. "You guys handle the distractions. I’m gonna plug this leak. Spirit Gun!"
A massive blast of blue energy carved a path through the Void Eater’s core, but the wound healed instantly.
"It feeds on direct spiritual energy," Kurama observed coolly. He slid a rose from his sleeve, transforming it into a wicked, thorned whip. "We need to strike its anchor point. Leif! The gems!"
Leif understood instantly. He held the Belt high. "The Diamond! For purity and strength!"
A beam of blinding white light erupted from the Belt, pinning the creature's core in place. It wasn't just light; it was reality asserting itself against the void.
The Finishing Move:
Van dove from the sky, the Escaflowne’s heavy broadsword trailing fire, slicing through the creature's outer shell.
Ikki used the vacuum created by Van’s descent to spiral upward, his Air Trecks generating a massive "Moonstruck" shockwave that shattered the beast's density.
Kurama sowed Sinning Trees into the cracks. The demon plants took root in the monster's own essence, paralyzing it with agony.
Yusuke charged his ultimate shot. "I don't care if you eat spirit energy... let's see if you can swallow the whole damn buffet!"
"SPIRIT... GUN... MEGA!"
The blast, amplified by the light of Deltora, didn't just hit the monster—it erased the rift itself.
The Parting
As the void collapsed and the portals to their respective worlds reopened, the five stood on a shrinking island of rock.
"Nice hustle, kid," Yusuke said, nodding to Leif. "Try to stay out of trouble."
"And you," Kurama added, looking at Ikki, "try to keep your feet on the ground occasionally."
"No promises!" Ikki laughed, skating toward a rift that smelled like city smog and freedom.
Van climbed back into his cockpit, looking at the strangers who fought like brothers. "Until the stars align again."
In a flash of white, the void went silent. Yusuke blinked, finding himself back on a street corner in Mushiyori. He checked his pockets.
"Hey Kurama," Yusuke muttered, "did that kid with the belt seem a little... intense for a middle-schooler?"
Kurama simply smiled. "In any world, Yusuke, the ones with the most to lose always fight the hardest."
